perf stat: Fix counting when initial delay configured When creating counters with initial delay configured, the enable_on_exec field is not set. So we need to enable the counters later. The problem is, when a workload is specified the target__none() is true. So we also need to check stat_config.initial_delay. In this change, we add a new field 'initial_delay' for struct target which could be shared by other subcommands. perf stat: Display event stats using aggr counts Now aggr counts are ready for use. Convert the display routines to use the aggr counts and update the shadow stat with them. It doesn't need to aggregate counts or collect aliases anymore during the display. Get rid of now unused struct perf_aggr_thread_value. Note that there's a difference in the display order among the aggr mode. For per-core/die/socket/node aggregation, it shows relevant events in the same unit together, whereas global/thread/no aggregation it shows the same events for different units together. So it still uses separate codes to display them due to the ordering. One more thing to note is that it breaks per-core event display for now. The next patch will fix it to have identical output as of now. perf stat: Add perf_stat_process_percore() The perf_stat_process_percore() is to aggregate counts for an event per-core even if the aggr_mode is AGGR_NONE. This is enabled when user requested it on the command line. To handle that, it keeps the per-cpu counts at first. And then it aggregates the counts that have the same core id in the aggr->counts and updates the values for each cpu back. Later, per-core events will skip one of the CPUs unless percore-show-thread option is given. In that case, it can simply print all cpu stats with the updated (per-core) values. libbpf: Hashmap interface update to allow both long and void* keys/values An update for libbpf's hashmap interface from void* -> void* to a polymorphic one, allowing both long and void* keys and values. This simplifies many use cases in libbpf as hashmaps there are mostly integer to integer. Perf copies hashmap implementation from libbpf and has to be updated as well. Changes to libbpf, selftests/bpf and perf are packed as a single commit to avoid compilation issues with any future bisect. Polymorphic interface is acheived by hiding hashmap interface functions behind auxiliary macros that take care of necessary type casts, for example: #define hashmap_cast_ptr(p) \ ({ \ _Static_assert((p) == NULL || sizeof(*(p)) == sizeof(long),\ #p " pointee should be a long-sized integer or a pointer"); \ (long *)(p); \ }) bool hashmap_find(const struct hashmap *map, long key, long *value); #define hashmap__find(map, key, value) \ hashmap_find((map), (long)(key), hashmap_cast_ptr(value)) - hashmap__find macro casts key and value parameters to long and long* respectively - hashmap_cast_ptr ensures that value pointer points to a memory of appropriate size. This hack was suggested by Andrii Nakryiko in [1]. This is a follow up for [2]. perf stat: Fix wrong skipping for per-die aggregation Uncore becomes die-scope on Xeon Cascade Lake-AP and perf has supported --per-die aggregation yet. One issue is found in check_per_pkg() for uncore events running on AP system. On cascade Lake-AP, we have: S0-D0 S0-D1 S1-D0 S1-D1 But in check_per_pkg(), S0-D1 and S1-D1 are skipped because the mask bits for S0 and S1 have been set for S0-D0 and S1-D0. It doesn't check die_id. So the counting for S0-D1 and S1-D1 are set to zero. That's not correct. root@lkp-csl-2ap4 ~# ./perf stat -a -I 1000 -e llc_misses.mem_read --per-die -- sleep 5 1.001460963 S0-D0 1 1317376 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 1.001460963 S0-D1 1 998016 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 1.001460963 S1-D0 1 970496 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 1.001460963 S1-D1 1 1291264 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003488021 S0-D0 1 1082048 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003488021 S0-D1 1 1919040 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003488021 S1-D0 1 890752 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003488021 S1-D1 1 2380800 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.005613270 S0-D0 1 1126080 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.005613270 S0-D1 1 2898176 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.005613270 S1-D0 1 870912 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.005613270 S1-D1 1 3388608 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.007627598 S0-D0 1 1124608 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.007627598 S0-D1 1 3884416 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.007627598 S1-D0 1 921088 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.007627598 S1-D1 1 4451840 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001479927 S0-D0 1 963328 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001479927 S0-D1 1 4831936 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001479927 S1-D0 1 895104 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001479927 S1-D1 1 5496640 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read From above output, we can see S0-D1 and S1-D1 don't report the interval values, they are continued to grow. That's because check_per_pkg() wrongly decides to use zero counts for S0-D1 and S1-D1. So in check_per_pkg(), we should use hashmap(socket, die) to decide if the cpu counts needs to skip. Only considering socket is not enough. Now with this patch, root@lkp-csl-2ap4 ~# ./perf stat -a -I 1000 -e llc_misses.mem_read --per-die -- sleep 5 1.001586691 S0-D0 1 1229440 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 1.001586691 S0-D1 1 976832 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 1.001586691 S1-D0 1 938304 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 1.001586691 S1-D1 1 1227328 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003776312 S0-D0 1 1586752 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003776312 S0-D1 1 875392 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003776312 S1-D0 1 855616 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 2.003776312 S1-D1 1 949376 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.006512788 S0-D0 1 1338880 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.006512788 S0-D1 1 920064 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.006512788 S1-D0 1 877184 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 3.006512788 S1-D1 1 1020736 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.008895291 S0-D0 1 926592 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.008895291 S0-D1 1 906368 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.008895291 S1-D0 1 892224 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 4.008895291 S1-D1 1 987712 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001590993 S0-D0 1 962624 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001590993 S0-D1 1 912512 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001590993 S1-D0 1 891200 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read 5.001590993 S1-D1 1 978432 Bytes llc_misses.mem_read On no-die system, die_id is 0, actually it's hashmap(socket,0), original behavior is not changed. perf stat: Support L2 Topdown events The TMA method level 2 metrics is supported from the Intel Sapphire Rapids server, which expose four L2 Topdown metrics events to user space. There are eight L2 events in total. The other four L2 Topdown metrics events are calculated from the corresponding L1 and the exposed L2 events. Now, the --topdown prints the complete top-down metrics that supported by the CPU. For the Intel Sapphire Rapids server, there are 4 L1 events and 8 L2 events displyed in one line. Add a new option, --td-level, to display the top-down statistics that equal to or lower than the input level. The L2 event is marked only when both its L1 parent event and itself crosse the threshold. perf stat: Enable counting events for BPF programs Introduce 'perf stat -b' option, which counts events for BPF programs, like: [root@localhost ~]# ~/perf stat -e ref-cycles,cycles -b 254 -I 1000 1.487903822 115,200 ref-cycles 1.487903822 86,012 cycles 2.489147029 80,560 ref-cycles 2.489147029 73,784 cycles 3.490341825 60,720 ref-cycles 3.490341825 37,797 cycles 4.491540887 37,120 ref-cycles 4.491540887 31,963 cycles The example above counts 'cycles' and 'ref-cycles' of BPF program of id 254. This is similar to bpftool-prog-profile command, but more flexible. 'perf stat -b' creates per-cpu perf_event and loads fentry/fexit BPF programs (monitor-progs) to the target BPF program (target-prog). The monitor-progs read perf_event before and after the target-prog, and aggregate the difference in a BPF map. Then the user space reads data from these maps. A new 'struct bpf_counter' is introduced to provide a common interface that uses BPF programs/maps to count perf events. Committer notes: Removed all but bpf_counter.h includes from evsel.h, not needed at all. Also BPF map lookups for PERCPU_ARRAYs need to have as its value receive buffer passed to the kernel libbpf_num_possible_cpus() entries, not evsel__nr_cpus(evsel), as the former uses /sys/devices/system/cpu/possible while the later uses /sys/devices/system/cpu/online, which may be less than the 'possible' number making the bpf map lookup overwrite memory and cause hard to debug memory corruption. We need to continue using evsel__nr_cpus(evsel) when accessing the perf_counts array tho, not to overwrite another are of memory :-) Signed-off-by: Song Liu <songliubraving@fb.com> Tested-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20210120163031.GU12699@kernel.org/ Acked-by: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Cc: Alexander Shishkin <alexander.shishkin@linux.intel.com> Cc: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@redhat.com> Cc: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Cc: kernel-team@fb.com Link: http://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20201229214214.3413833-4-songliubraving@fb.com Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>

perf stat aggregation: Add separate socket member Add socket as a separate member so that it doesn't have to be packed into the int value. When the socket ID was larger than 8 bits the output appeared corrupted or incomplete. For example, here on ThunderX2 'perf stat' reports a socket of -1 and an invalid die number: ./perf stat -a --per-die The socket id number is too big. Performance counter stats for 'system wide': S-1-D255 128 687.99 msec cpu-clock # 57.240 CPUs utilized ... S36-D0 128 842.34 msec cpu-clock # 70.081 CPUs utilized ... And with --per-core there is an entry with an invalid core ID: ./perf stat record -a --per-core The socket id number is too big. Performance counter stats for 'system wide': S-1-D255-C65535 128 671.04 msec cpu-clock # 54.112 CPUs utilized ... S36-D0-C0 4 28.27 msec cpu-clock # 2.279 CPUs utilized ... perf stat: Save aggr value to first member of prev_raw_counts To collect the overall statistics for interval mode, we copy the counts from evsel->prev_raw_counts to evsel->counts. For AGGR_GLOBAL mode, because the perf_stat_process_counter creates aggr values from per cpu values, but the per cpu values are 0, so the calculated aggr values will be always 0. This patch uses a trick that saves the previous aggr value to the first member of perf_counts, then aggr calculation in process_counter_values can work correctly for AGGR_GLOBAL. v6: --- Add comments in perf_evlist__save_aggr_prev_raw_counts. perf stat: Copy counts from prev_raw_counts to evsel->counts It would be useful to support the overall statistics for perf-stat interval mode. For example, report the summary at the end of "perf-stat -I" output. But since perf-stat can support many aggregation modes, such as --per-thread, --per-socket, -M and etc, we need a solution which doesn't bring much complexity. The idea is to use 'evsel->prev_raw_counts' which is updated in each interval and it's saved with the latest counts. Before reporting the summary, we copy the counts from evsel->prev_raw_counts to evsel->counts, and next we just follow non-interval processing. v5: --- Don't save the previous aggr value to the member of [cpu0,thread0] in perf_counts. Originally that was a trick because the perf_stat_process_counter would create aggr values from per cpu values. But we don't need to do that all the time. We will handle it in next patch. This eliminates IPI overhead in the perf API. We have to loop through the CPU in the outter builtin-stat code instead of leaving that to low level functions. It has to change the weak group fallback strategy slightly. Since we cannot easily undo the opens for other CPUs move the weak group retry to a separate loop. perf stat: Support per-die aggregation It is useful to aggregate counts per die. E.g. Uncore becomes die-scope on Xeon Cascade Lake-AP. Introduce a new option "--per-die" to support per-die aggregation. The global id for each core has been changed to socket + die id + core id. The global id for each die is socket + die id. Add die information for per-core aggregation. The output of per-core aggregation will be changed from "S0-C0" to "S0-D0-C0". Any scripts which rely on the output format of per-core aggregation probably be broken. For 'perf stat record/report', there is no die information when processing the old perf.data. The per-die result will be the same as per-socket. perf stat: Fix --no-scale The -c option to enable multiplex scaling has been useless for quite some time because scaling is default. It's only useful as --no-scale to disable scaling. But the non scaling code path has bitrotted and doesn't print anything because perf output code relies on value run/ena information. Also even when we don't want to scale a value it's still useful to show its multiplex percentage. This patch: - Fixes help and documentation to show --no-scale instead of -c - Removes -c, only keeps the long option because -c doesn't support negatives. - Enables running/enabled even with --no-scale - And fixes some other problems in the no-scale output. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. perf stat: Fix interval output values We broke interval data displays with commit: 3f416f22d1e2 ("perf stat: Do not clean event's private stats") This commit removed stats cleaning, which is important for '-r' option to carry counters data over the whole run. But it's necessary to clean it for interval mode, otherwise the displayed value is avg of all previous values. Before: $ perf stat -e cycles -a -I 1000 record # time counts unit events 1.000240796 75,216,287 cycles 2.000512791 107,823,524 cycles $ perf stat report # time counts unit events 1.000240796 75,216,287 cycles 2.000512791 91,519,906 cycles Now: $ perf stat report # time counts unit events 1.000240796 75,216,287 cycles 2.000512791 107,823,524 cycles Notice the second value being bigger (91,.. < 107,..). This could be easily verified by using perf script which displays raw stat data: $ perf script CPU THREAD VAL ENA RUN TIME EVENT 0 -1 23855779 1000209530 1000209530 1000240796 cycles 1 -1 33340397 1000224964 1000224964 1000240796 cycles 2 -1 15835415 1000226695 1000226695 1000240796 cycles 3 -1 2184696 1000228245 1000228245 1000240796 cycles 0 -1 97014312 2000514533 2000514533 2000512791 cycles 1 -1 46121497 2000543795 2000543795 2000512791 cycles 2 -1 32269530 2000543566 2000543566 2000512791 cycles 3 -1 7634472 2000544108 2000544108 2000512791 cycles The sum of the first 4 values is the first interval aggregated value: 23855779 + 33340397 + 15835415 + 2184696 = 75,216,287 The sum of the second 4 values minus first value is the second interval aggregated value: 97014312 + 46121497 + 32269530 + 7634472 - 75216287 = 107,823,524 Signed-off-by: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@kernel.org> Cc: Andi Kleen <ak@linux.intel.com> Cc: David Ahern <dsahern@gmail.com> Cc: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <a.p.zijlstra@chello.nl> Cc: Stephane Eranian <eranian@google.com> Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1454485436-20639-1-git-send-email-jolsa@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>

perf stat: Fix per-pkg event reporting bug Per-pkg events need to be captured once per processor socket. The code in check_per_pkg() ensures only one value per processor package is used. However there is a problem with this function in case the first CPU of the package does not measure anything for the per-pkg event, but other CPUs do. Consider the following: $ create cgroup FOO; echo $$ >FOO/tasks; taskset -c 1 noploop & $ perf stat -a -I 1000 -e intel_cqm/llc_occupancy/ -G FOO sleep 100 1.00000 <not counted> Bytes intel_cqm/llc_occupancy/ FOO The reason for this is that CPU0 in the cgroup has nothing running on it. Yet check_per_plg() will mark socket0 as processed and no other event value will be considered for the socket. This patch fixes the problem by having check_per_pkg() only consider events which actually ran. perf stat: Move perf_counts struct and functions into separate object Moving 'struct perf_counts' and associated functions into separate object, so we could remove stat.c object dependency from python build. It makes the python code to build properly, because it fails to load due to missing stat-shadow.c object dependency if some patches from Kan Liang are applied. So apply this one, then Kan's.
