scripts/tags.sh: Resolve gtags empty index generation gtags considers any file outside of its current working directory "outside the source tree" and refuses to index it. For O= kernel builds, or when "make" is invoked from a directory other then the kernel source tree, gtags ignores the entire kernel source and generates an empty index. Force-set gtags current working directory to the kernel source tree. Due to commit 9da0763bdd82 ("kbuild: Use relative path when building in a subdir of the source tree"), if the kernel build is done in a sub-directory of the kernel source tree, the kernel Makefile will set the kernel's $srctree to ".." for shorter compile-time and run-time warnings. Consequently, the list of files to be indexed will be in the "../*" form, rendering all such paths invalid once gtags switches to the kernel source tree as its current working directory. If gtags indexing is requested and the build directory is not the kernel source tree, index all files in absolute-path form. Note, indexing in absolute-path form will not affect the generated index, as paths in gtags indices are always relative to the gtags "root directory" anyway (as evidenced by "gtags --dump"). scripts/tags.sh: fix incompatibility with PCRE2 Starting with release 10.38 PCRE2 drops default support for using \K in lookaround patterns as described in [1]. Unfortunately, scripts/tags.sh relies on such functionality to collect all_compiled_soures() leading to the following error: $ make COMPILED_SOURCE=1 tags GEN tags grep: \K is not allowed in lookarounds (but see PCRE2_EXTRA_ALLOW_LOOKAROUND_BSK) The usage of \K for this pattern was introduced in commit 4f491bb6ea2a ("scripts/tags.sh: collect compiled source precisely") which speeds up the generation of tags significantly. In order to fix this issue without compromising the performance we can switch over to an equivalent sed expression. The same matching pattern is preserved here except \K is replaced with a backreference \1. scripts/tags.sh: choose which directories to exclude from being indexed It's common for drivers that share same physical components to also duplicate source code (or at least portions of it). A good example is both drivers/gpu/drm/amdgpu/* and drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/* have a header file called atombios.h. While their contents aren't the same, a lot of their structs have the exact same names which makes navigating through the code base a bit messy as cscope will show up 'references' across drivers which aren't exactly correct. Add IGNORE_DIRS variable, which specifies which directories to be ignored from indexing. kbuild: add a flag to force absolute path for srctree In old days, Kbuild always used an absolute path for $(srctree). Since commit 890676c65d69 ("kbuild: Use relative path when building in the source tree"), $(srctree) is '.' when O= was not passed from the command line. Yet, using absolute paths is useful in some cases even without O=, for instance, to create a cscope file with absolute path tags. 'O=.' was known to work as a workaround to force Kbuild to use absolute paths even when you are building in the source tree. Since commit 25b146c5b8ce ("kbuild: allow Kbuild to start from any directory"), Kbuild is too clever to be tricked. Even if you pass 'O=.' Kbuild notices you are building in the source tree, then use '.' for $(srctree). So, 'make O=. cscope' is no help to create absolute path tags. We cannot force one or the other according to commit e93bc1a0cab3 ("Revert "kbuild: specify absolute paths for cscope""). Both of relative path and absolute path have pros and cons. This commit adds a new flag KBUILD_ABS_SRCTREE to allow users to choose the absolute path for $(srctree). 'make KBUILD_ABS_SRCTREE=1 cscope' will work as a replacement of 'make O=. cscope'. That implies renaming some of the machinery that creates PageBuddy, PageBalloon and PageKmemcg; bring back the PG_buddy, PG_balloon and PG_kmemcg names. As suggested by Kirill, make page_type a bitmask. Because it starts out life as -1 (thanks to sharing the storage with _mapcount), setting a page flag means clearing the appropriate bit. tags: Unify emacs and exuberant rules The emacs rules were constantly lagging behind the exuberant ones. Use a single set of rules for both, to make the script easier to maintain. The language understood by both tools is basic regular expression with some limitations, which are documented in a comment. To be able to store the rules in an array and easily iterate over it, the script requires bash now. In the exuberant case, the change fixes some false matches in <linux/page-flags.h> and also some too greedy matches in the arguments of the DECLARE_*/DEFINE_* macros. In the emacs case, several previously not working rules are matching now. Tested with these versions of the tools: Exuberant Ctags 5.8, Copyright (C) 1996-2009 Darren Hiebert etags (GNU Emacs 24.5) Signed-off-by: Michal Marek <mmarek@suse.com>

tags: Treat header files as C code This allows to apply the same patters to both source and header files. The effect is mostly visible in the case of DECLARE_BITMAP, but there are small gains all over the place. There is also lots of random changes in the diff, I believe this is simply because there are still lots of unexpanded macros in the code and the C and C++ parsers fail and recover at different points. Also, qconf.h is parsed as C, but that's a negligible regression. Signed-off-by: Michal Marek <mmarek@suse.com>

scripts/tags.sh: ignore symlink'ed source files Since commit 22d651dcef536c75f75537290bf3da5038e68b6b ('selftests/powerpc: Import Anton's memcpy / copy_tofrom_user tests'), some source files in the tree appear as symlink. Until commit 8c38a5328af8080bc69a25b3e4e144b03eeea95e ('scripts/tags.sh: ignore code of user space tools'), those symlinks made cscope report some warnings: $ make ALLSOURCE_ARCHS=all O=./obj-cscope/ cscope GEN cscope cscope: cannot find file .../tools/testing/selftests/powerpc/copyloops/copyuser_power7.S cscope: cannot find file .../tools/testing/selftests/powerpc/copyloops/memcpy_64.S cscope: cannot find file .../tools/testing/selftests/powerpc/copyloops/memcpy_power7.S cscope: cannot find file .../tools/testing/selftests/powerpc/copyloops/copyuser_64.S In order to prevent the same kind of warnings to be triggered by future addition of symlinks, the best option is to ignore all symlinks when building the file list to be processed by cscope (and other tools supported by scripts/tags.sh). Ignoring symlinks won't hide source files from cscope (and others) as the target of these symlinks already appear somewhere else in the tree, and, as such, should be processed by cscope (or others). Note that, cscope, when used with -R option to make it find the files to process by itself, already skip symlinks: it's not expected that cscope access source files through symlink. On top of commit 8c38a5328af8080bc69a25b3e4e144b03eeea95e ('scripts/tags.sh: ignore code of user space tools'), scripts/tags.sh output from "make cscope tags TAGS" is the same with and without this patch: it doesn't seems to introduce any regression (on Fedora 20). tags, powerpc: Update tags.sh to support _GLOBAL symbols On PowerPC we use _GLOBAL throughout the assembly to define symbols, but currently these symbols are missing from the tags generated with ARCH=powerpc make tags. This patch modifies the tags.sh script to recognise _GLOBAL(.*) so that these symbols will be in the tags. This is almost (but not quite) PowerPC specific and this change should not affect anyone else: $ git grep -E '^_GLOBAL\(([^)]*)\).*' |sed 's/^\([^/]*\/[^/]*\)\/.*$/\1/'|uniq -c 627 arch/powerpc 2 arch/um Signed-off-by: Ian Munsie <imunsie@au1.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Michal Marek <mmarek@suse.cz>

tags: include headers before source files Currently looking up a structure definition in TAGS / tags takes one to one of multiple "static struct X" definitions in arch sources, which makes it for many structs practically impossible to get to the required header. This patch changes the order of sources being tagged to first scan architecture includes, then the top-level include/ directory, and only then the rest. It also takes into account, that many architectures have more than one include directory, i.e., not only arch/$ARCH/include, but also arch/$ARCH/mach-X/include etc. Signed-off-by: Guennadi Liakhovetski <g.liakhovetski@gmx.de> Reviewed-by: WANG Cong <xiyou.wangcong@gmail.com> [mmarek@suse.cz: fix 'var+=text' bashism] Signed-off-by: Michal Marek <mmarek@suse.cz>

kbuild: specify absolute paths for cscope Cscope doesn't hadle relative paths when cscope.out is not in $PWD. Use absolute paths when generating cscope.files, which seems to be the recommended way to generate cscope.out, anyway (at least according to cscope.sf.net). The speed and size differences are minimal, the only drawback is that the database needs to be regenerated if the source directory is moved. ctags: usability fix The tag file generated by the tags.sh script has some issue. First: The identifier-list miss the DEFINE_TRACE,EXPORT_TRACEPOINT_SYMBOL,EXPORT_TRACEPOINT_SYMBOL_GPL special handling, which can result in a wrong tag, not to jump to the right variable definition or function implementation. Second: It makes no real sense to include function prototypes and external and forward variable declarations, because jumping to a tag will sometimes go to this and not to the real definition and implementation. The information about the declaration is still there at the definition and implementation place. So this patch make it lot easier to navigate through the kernel source tree using vi. tags and cscope support really belongs in a shell script as they do not benefit from the make functionality. Moving the support to a shell script has several benefits: - The readability of the code has increased a lot - More people is able to extend the tags support - We see less changes to the top-level Makefile The shell script version includes improvements from: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> (jump to kconfig symbols) Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> (drop ./ in paths) Ian Campbell <ijc@hellion.org.uk> (simplified find algorithms) This version has a few caveats: => It does not support ALLSOURCE_ARCHS - it is easy to add if it is really used => It assumes all archs have moved to arch/$ARCH/include - until that happens we have a few additional hits in the archs Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Cc: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Tested-by: Ian Campbell <ijc@hellion.org.uk>
