# a5f61648 06-Jul-2023 Baoquan He <bhe@redhat.com>

mm/ioremap: add slab availability checking in ioremap_prot

Several architectures has done checking if slab if available in
ioremap_prot(). In fact it should be done in generic ioremap_prot() since
on any architecutre, slab allocator must be available before
get_vm_area_caller() and vunmap() are used.

Add the checking into generic_ioremap_prot().

mm: ioremap: allow ARCH to have its own ioremap method definition

Architectures can be converted to GENERIC_IOREMAP, to take standard
ioremap_xxx() and iounmap() way. But some ARCH-es could have specific
handling for ioremap_prot(), ioremap() and iounmap(), than standard
methods.

In oder to convert these ARCH-es to take GENERIC_IOREMAP method, allow
these architecutres to have their own ioremap_prot(), ioremap() and
iounmap() definitions.

mm: ioremap: Add ioremap/iounmap_allowed()

Add special hook for architecture to verify addr, size or prot
when ioremap() or iounmap(), which will make the generic ioremap
more useful.

ioremap_allowed() return a bool,
- true means continue to remap
- false means skip remap and return directly
iounmap_allowed() return a bool,
- true means continue to vunmap
- false code means skip vunmap and return directly

Meanwhile, only vunmap the address when it is in vmalloc area
as the generic ioremap only returns vmalloc addresses.

# 82a70ce0 07-Sep-2021 Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de>

mm: move ioremap_page_range to vmalloc.c

Patch series "small ioremap cleanups".

The first patch moves a little code around the vmalloc/ioremap boundary
following a bigger move by Nick earlier. The second enforces
non-executable mapping on ioremap just like we do for vmap. No driver
currently uses executable mappings anyway, as they should.

This patch (of 2):

This keeps it together with the implementation, and to remove the
vmap_range wrapper.

# 86d0c164 14-May-2021 Christophe Leroy <christophe.leroy@csgroup.eu>

mm/ioremap: fix iomap_max_page_shift

iomap_max_page_shift is expected to contain a page shift, so it can't be a
'bool', has to be an 'unsigned int'

And fix the default values: P4D_SHIFT is when huge iomap is allowed.

However, on some architectures (eg: powerpc book3s/64), P4D_SHIFT is not a
constant so it can't be used to initialise a static variable. So,
initialise iomap_max_page_shift with a maximum shift supported by the
architecture, it is gated by P4D_SHIFT in vmap_try_huge_p4d() anyway.

mm: HUGE_VMAP arch support cleanup

This changes the awkward approach where architectures provide init
functions to determine which levels they can provide large mappings for,
to one where the arch is queried for each call.

This removes code and indirection, and allows constant-folding of dead
code for unsupported levels.

This also adds a prot argument to the arch query. This is unused
currently but could help with some architectures (e.g., some powerpc
processors can't map uncacheable memory with large pages).
