batman-adv: Drop publication years from copyright info

The batman-adv source code was using the year of publication (to net-next)
as "last" year for the copyright statement. The whole source code mentioned
in the MAINTAINERS "BATMAN ADVANCED" section was handled as a single entity
regarding the publishing year.

This avoided having outdated (in sense of year information - not copyright
holder) publishing information inside several files. But since the simple
"update copyright year" commit (without other changes) in the file was not
well received in the upstream kernel, the option to not have a copyright
year (for initial and last publication) in the files are chosen instead.
More detailed information about the years can still be retrieved from the
SCM system.

batman-adv: Allow selection of routing algorithm over rtnetlink

A batadv net_device is associated to a B.A.T.M.A.N. routing algorithm. This
algorithm has to be selected before the interface is initialized and cannot
be changed after that. The only way to select this algorithm was a module
parameter which specifies the default algorithm used during the creation of
the net_device.

This module parameter is writeable over
/sys/module/batman_adv/parameters/routing_algo and thus allows switching of
the routing algorithm:

1. change routing_algo parameter
2. create new batadv net_device

But this is not race free because another process can be scheduled between
1 + 2 and in that time frame change the routing_algo parameter again.

It is much cleaner to directly provide this information inside the
rtnetlink's RTM_NEWLINK message. The two processes would be (in regards of
the creation parameter of their batadv interfaces) be isolated. This also
eases the integration of batadv devices inside tools like network-manager
or systemd-networkd which are not expecting to operate on /sys before a new
net_device is created.

batman-adv: Prepare infrastructure for newlink settings

The batadv generic netlink family can be used to retrieve the current state
and set various configuration settings. But there are also settings which
must be set before the actual interface is created.

The rtnetlink already uses IFLA_INFO_DATA to allow net_device families to
transfer such configurations. The minimal required functionality for this
is now available for the batadv rtnl_link_ops. Also a new IFLA class of
attributes will be attached to it because rtnetlink only allows 51
different attributes but batadv_nl_attrs already contains 62 attributes.

batman-adv: Introduce a configurable per interface hop penalty

In some setups multiple hard interfaces with similar link qualities
or throughput values are available. But people have expressed the desire
to consider one of them as a backup only.

Some creative solutions are currently in use: Such people are
configuring multiple batman-adv mesh/soft interfaces, wire them
together with some veth pairs and then tune the hop penalty to achieve
an effect similar to a tunable per interface hop penalty.

This patch introduces a new, configurable, per hard interface hop penalty
to simplify such setups.

# 32e72744 22-Mar-2019 Linus Lüssing <linus.luessing@c0d3.blue>

batman-adv: Add multicast-to-unicast support for multiple targets

With this patch multicast packets with a limited number of destinations
(current default: 16) will be split and transmitted by the originator as
individual unicast transmissions.

Wifi broadcasts with their low bitrate are still a costly undertaking.
In a mesh network this cost multiplies with the overall size of the mesh
network. Therefore using multiple unicast transmissions instead of
broadcast flooding is almost always less burdensome for the mesh
network.

The maximum amount of unicast packets can be configured via the newly
introduced multicast_fanout parameter. If this limit is exceeded
distribution will fall back to classic broadcast flooding.

The multicast-to-unicast conversion is performed on the initial
multicast sender node and counts on a final destination node, mesh-wide
basis (and not next hop, neighbor node basis).

# 9a182242 23-Nov-2018 Sven Eckelmann <sven@narfation.org>

batman-adv: Add throughput_override hardif genl configuration

The B.A.T.M.A.N. V implementation tries to estimate the link throughput of
an interface to an originator using different automatic methods. It is
still possible to overwrite it the link throughput for all reachable
originators via this interface.

The BATADV_CMD_SET_HARDIF/BATADV_CMD_GET_HARDIF commands allow to set/get
the configuration of this feature using the u32
BATADV_ATTR_THROUGHPUT_OVERRIDE attribute. The used unit is in 100 Kbit/s.
If the value is set to 0 then batman-adv will try to estimate the
throughput by itself.

batman-adv: Add network_coding mesh genl configuration

The mesh interface can use (in an homogeneous mesh) network coding, a
mechanism that aims to increase the overall network throughput by fusing
multiple packets in one transmission.

The BATADV_CMD_SET_MESH/BATADV_CMD_GET_MESH commands allow to set/get the

traversing an additional hop. This hop_penalty (0-255) defines the
percentage of reduction (0-100%).

batman-adv: Add gateway mesh genl configuration

The mesh/soft-interface can optimize the handling of DHCP packets. Instead
of flooding them through the whole mesh, it can be forwarded as unicast to
a specific gateway server. The originator which injects the packets in the
mesh has to select (based on sel_class thresholds) a responsible gateway
server. This is done by switching this originator to the gw_mode client.
The servers announce their forwarding bandwidth (download/upload) when the
gw_mode server was selected.

The BATADV_CMD_SET_MESH/BATADV_CMD_GET_MESH commands allow to set/get the
configuration of this feature using the attributes:

* u8 BATADV_ATTR_GW_MODE (0 == off, 1 == client, 2 == server)
* u32 BATADV_ATTR_GW_BANDWIDTH_DOWN (in 100 kbit/s steps)

batman-adv: netlink: hardif query

BATADV_CMD_GET_HARDIFS will return the list of hardifs (including index,
name and MAC address) of all hardifs for a given softif.

# 33a3bb4a 05-May-2016 Antonio Quartulli <antonio.quartulli@open-mesh.com>

batman-adv: throughput meter implementation

The throughput meter module is a simple, kernel-space replacement for
throughtput measurements tool like iperf and netperf. It is intended to
approximate TCP behaviour.

It is invoked through batctl: the protocol is connection oriented, with
cumulative acknowledgment and a dynamic-size sliding window.

The test *can* be interrupted by batctl. A receiver side timeout avoids
unlimited waitings for sender packets: after one second of inactivity, the
receiver abort the ongoing test.

# 5da0aef5 09-May-2016 Matthias Schiffer <mschiffer@universe-factory.net>

batman-adv: add netlink command to query generic mesh information files

BATADV_CMD_GET_MESH_INFO is used to query basic information about a
batman-adv softif (name, index and MAC address for both the softif and
the primary hardif; routing algorithm; batman-adv version).

# 09748a22 09-May-2016 Matthias Schiffer <mschiffer@universe-factory.net>

batman-adv: add generic netlink family for batman-adv

debugfs is currently severely broken virtually everywhere in the kernel
where files are dynamically added and removed (see
http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1506.1/02196.html for some
details). In addition to that, debugfs is not namespace-aware.

Instead of adding new debugfs entries, the whole infrastructure should be
moved to netlink. This will fix the long standing problem of large buffers
for debug tables and hard to parse text files.
