locking/seqlock, headers: Untangle the spaghetti monster By using lockdep_assert_*() from seqlock.h, the spaghetti monster attacked. Attack back by reducing seqlock.h dependencies from two key high level headers: - <linux/seqlock.h>: -Remove <linux/ww_mutex.h> - <linux/time.h>: -Remove <linux/seqlock.h> - <linux/sched.h>: +Add <linux/seqlock.h> The price was to add it to sched.h ... Core header fallout, we add direct header dependencies instead of gaining them parasitically from higher level headers: - <linux/dynamic_queue_limits.h>: +Add <asm/bug.h> - <linux/hrtimer.h>: +Add <linux/seqlock.h> - <linux/ktime.h>: +Add <asm/bug.h> - <linux/lockdep.h>: +Add <linux/smp.h> - <linux/sched.h>: +Add <linux/seqlock.h> - <linux/videodev2.h>: +Add <linux/kernel.h> Arch headers fallout: - PARISC: <asm/timex.h>: +Add <asm/special_insns.h> - SH: <asm/io.h>: +Add <asm/page.h> - SPARC: <asm/timer_64.h>: +Add <uapi/asm/asi.h> - SPARC: <asm/vvar.h>: +Add <asm/processor.h>, <asm/barrier.h> -Remove <linux/seqlock.h> - X86: <asm/fixmap.h>: +Add <asm/pgtable_types.h> -Remove <asm/acpi.h> There's also a bunch of parasitic header dependency fallout in .c files, not listed separately. [media] V4L: Remove "_ACTIVE" from the selection target name definitions This patch drops the _ACTIVE part from the selection target names as a prerequisite to unify the selection target names across the subdev and regular video node API. The meaning of V4L2_SEL_TGT_*_ACTIVE and V4L2_SUBDEV_SEL_TGT_*_ACTUAL selection targets is logically the same. Different names add to confusion where both APIs are used in a single driver or an application. For some system configurations different names may lead to interoperability issues. For backwards compatibility V4L2_SEL_TGT_CROP_ACTIVE and V4L2_SEL_TGT_COMPOSE_ACTIVE are defined as aliases to V4L2_SEL_TGT_CROP and V4L2_SEL_TGT_COMPOSE. [media] v4l2: use __u32 rather than enums in ioctl() structs V4L2 uses the enum type in IOCTL arguments in IOCTLs that were defined until the use of enum was considered less than ideal. Recently Rémi Denis-Courmont brought up the issue by proposing a patch to convert the enums to unsigned: <URL:http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg46167.html> This sparked a long discussion where another solution to the issue was proposed: two sets of IOCTL structures, one with __u32 and the other with enums, and conversion code between the two: <URL:http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg47168.html> Both approaches implement a complete solution that resolves the problem. The first one is simple but requires assuming enums and __u32 are the same in size (so we won't break the ABI) while the second one is more complex and less clean but does not require making that assumption. The issue boils down to whether enums are fundamentally different from __u32 or not, and can the former be substituted by the latter. During the discussion it was concluded that the __u32 has the same size as enums on all archs Linux is supported: it has not been shown that replacing those enums in IOCTL arguments would break neither source or binary compatibility. If no such reason is found, just replacing the enums with __u32s is the way to go. This is what this patch does. This patch is slightly different from Remi's first RFC (link above): it uses __u32 instead of unsigned and also changes the arguments of VIDIOC_G_PRIORITY and VIDIOC_S_PRIORITY. [media] V4L: Add JPEG compression control class The V4L2_CID_JPEG_CLASS control class is intended to expose various adjustable parameters of JPEG encoders and decoders. Following controls are defined: - V4L2_CID_JPEG_CHROMA_SUBSAMPLING, - V4L2_CID_JPEG_RESTART_INTERVAL, - V4L2_CID_JPEG_COMPRESSION_QUALITY, - V4L2_CID_JPEG_ACTIVE_MARKER. This covers only a part of relevant standard specifications. More controls should be added in future if required. The purpose of V4L2_CID_JPEG_CLASS class is also to replace some functionality covered by VIDIOC_S/G_JPEGCOMP ioctls, i.e. the JPEG markers presence and compression quality control. The applications and drivers should switch from the ioctl to control based API, as described in the subsequent patches for the Media API DocBook. [media] V4L2: Add per-device-node capabilities If V4L2_CAP_DEVICE_CAPS is set, then the new device_caps field is filled with the capabilities of the opened device node. The capabilities field traditionally contains the capabilities of the physical device, being a superset of all capabilities available at the several device nodes. E.g., if you open /dev/video0, then if it contains VBI caps then that means that there is a corresponding vbi node as well. And the capabilities field of both the video and vbi nodes should contain identical caps. However, it would be very useful to also have a capabilities field that contains just the caps for the currently open device, hence the new CAP bit and field. [media] v4l: Add multi-planar API definitions to the V4L2 API Multi-planar API is as a backwards-compatible extension of the V4L2 API, which allows video buffers to consist of one or more planes. Planes are separate memory buffers; each has its own mapping, backed by usually separate physical memory buffers. Many different uses for the multi-planar API are possible, examples include: - embedded devices requiring video components to be placed in physically separate buffers, e.g. for Samsung S3C/S5P SoC series' video codec, Y and interleaved Cb/Cr components reside in buffers in different memory banks; - applications may receive (or choose to store) video data of one video buffer in separate memory buffers; such data would have to be temporarily copied together into one buffer before passing it to a V4L2 device; - applications or drivers may want to pass metadata related to a buffer and it may not be possible to place it in the same buffer, together with video data. V4L/DVB: gspca_xirlink_cit: New gspca subdriver replacing v4l1 usbvideo/ibmcam.c The old usbvideo ibmcam driver needs to be replaced with a v4l2 driver preferably using the gspca webcam framework rather then the old usbvideo framework. This new gspca sub driver sets a first step in that direction. The ibmcam driver supports 4 different model webcams. This new driver (for now) only supports Model 3 cameras, as my test cam is a Model 3 cam, or so I thought. Upon reading: http://www.linux-usb.org/ibmcam/ I learned that the IBM Netcamera Pro I have even though having the same usb id and the same bcd version is different from the Model 3 cameras supported by the ibmcam driver. So this new gscpa subdriver supports Model 3 cameras (untested), and the IBM Netcamera Pro. Currently use with the IBM Netcamera Pro requires a module parameter. V4L/DVB (13571): v4l: Adding Digital Video Timings APIs This adds the above APIs to the v4l2 core. This is based on version v1.2 of the RFC titled "V4L - Support for video timings at the input/output interface" Following new ioctls are added:- - VIDIOC_ENUM_DV_PRESETS - VIDIOC_S_DV_PRESET - VIDIOC_G_DV_PRESET - VIDIOC_QUERY_DV_PRESET - VIDIOC_S_DV_TIMINGS - VIDIOC_G_DV_TIMINGS Please refer to the RFC for the details. This code was tested using vpfe capture driver on TI's DM365. Following is the test configuration used :- Blu-Ray HD DVD source -> TVP7002 -> DM365 (VPFE) ->DDR A draft version of the TVP7002 driver (currently being reviewed in the mailing list) was used that supports V4L2_DV_1080I60 & V4L2_DV_720P60 presets. A loopback video capture application was used for testing these APIs. This calls following IOCTLS :- - verify the new v4l2_input capabilities flag added - Enumerate available presets using VIDIOC_ENUM_DV_PRESETS - Set one of the supported preset using VIDIOC_S_DV_PRESET - Get current preset using VIDIOC_G_DV_PRESET - Detect current preset using VIDIOC_QUERY_DV_PRESET - Using stub functions in tvp7002, verify VIDIOC_S_DV_TIMINGS and VIDIOC_G_DV_TIMINGS ioctls are received at the sub device. - Tested on 64bit platform by Hans Verkuil Signed-off-by: Muralidharan Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Reviewed-by: Randy Dunlap <randy.dunlap@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

V4L/DVB (8720): gspca: V4L2_CAP_SENSOR_UPSIDE_DOWN added as a cap for some webcams. This patch adds a V4L2_CAP_SENSOR_UPSIDE_DOWN flag to the capabilities flags, and sets this flag for the Philips SPC200NC cam (which has its sensor installed upside down). The same flag is also needed and added for the Philips SPC300NC. Together with a patch to libv4l which adds flipping the image in software this fixes the upside down display with the SPC200NC cam. Fix header export of videodev2.h, ivtv.h, ivtvfb.h The exported copy of videodev2.h contains this line: #define #include <sys/time.h> This is because for some reason it defines __user for itself -- despite the fact that we remove all instances of __user when exporting headers. _All_ pointers in userspace are user pointers. Fix it by removing the unnecessary '#define __user' from the file. The new headers ivtv.h and ivtvfb.h would have the same problem... if whoever put them there had actually remembered to add them to the Kbuild file while he was at it. Fix those too, and export them as was presumably intended. Note that includes of <linux/compiler.h> are also stripped by the header export process, so those don't need to be conditional. V4L/DVB (5146): Make VIDIOC_INT_[SG]_REGISTER ioctls no longer internal only The direct register access ioctls were defined as kernel internal only, but they are very useful for debugging hardware from userspace and are used as such. Officially export them. VIDIOC_INT_[SG]_REGISTER is renamed to VIDIOC_DBG_[SG]_REGISTER Definition of ioctl and struct v4l2_register is moved from v4l2-common.h to videodev2.h. Types used in struct v4l2_register are changed to the userspace exportable versions (u32 -> __u32, etc). Use of VIDIOC_DBG_S_REGISTER requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN permission, so move the check into the video_ioctl2() dispatcher so it doesn't need to be duplicated in each driver's call-back function. V4L/DVB (4585): VIDIOC_G_SLICED_VBI_CAP now accepts a v4l2_buf_type, make it IOWR The VIDIOC_G_SLICED_VBI_CAP needs to receive the v4l2_buf_type field before it can return a result. Hence this ioctl must be IOWR, not IOR. Since this ioctl is still marked experimental we can make this change. V4L/DVB (4605): Fixes an issue with V4L1 and make headers-install V4L1 support should be disabled when no CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L1_COMPAT is defined, to allow checking for broken V4L2 ports. This is very important during the migration phase for V4L2 API. However, userspace apps should be capable of using both APIs, since they need to test at runtime, via VIDIOCGCAP ioctl, if V4L1 is supported. So, when __KERNEL__ is not defined, those ioctls and corresponding structs should be visible. This patch also removes the obsolete defines HAVE_V4L1 and HAVE_V4L2, that where causing some confusion, and were replaced by CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L1_COMPAT and CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2. V4L (926_2): Moves compat32 functions from fs to v4l subsystem This moves the 32 bit ioctl compatibility handlers for Video4Linux into a new file and adds explicit calls to them to each v4l device driver. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any code handling the v4l2 ioctls, so quite often the code goes through two separate conversions, first from 32 bit v4l to 64 bit v4l, and from there to 64 bit v4l2. My patch does not change that, so there is still much room for improvement. Also, some drivers have additional ioctl numbers, for which the conversion should be handled internally to that driver. [PATCH] v4l: experimental Sliced VBI API support Adds all defines, ioctls and structs needed for the sliced VBI API VBI = Vertical Blank Interval. It is related with the way TV signals work. It sends a line, then, it has a retrace time to allow the tube to move electrons to the beginning of the next line. This was the main reason at the beginning of analog B&W TV. There is a lot of bandwidth lost on VBI. So, lots of TV systems use it to send other information such as Closed Captions and Teletext. Also, broadcasters uses this as a channel to exchange information from the content producer to their subsidiaries at each city. There's already a raw VBI interface on V4L2 api, used for Closed Captions and Teletext. The decoding is doing at userlevel space and it is mostly for analog TV signals, non encoded. Encoded signals (MPEG, for example), may need also to transmit other information (like, for example, display aspect, i.e. 4x3, widescreen...). Sliced VBI interface is a method to allow the video stream to transmit this kind of information. Linux-2.6.12-rc2 Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
