net: gtp: Remove generic .ndo_get_stats64 Commit 3e2f544dd8a33 ("net: get stats64 if device if driver is configured") moved the callback to dev_get_tstats64() to net core, so, unless the driver is doing some custom stats collection, it does not need to set .ndo_get_stats64. Since this driver is now relying in NETDEV_PCPU_STAT_TSTATS, then, it doesn't need to set the dev_get_tstats64() generic .ndo_get_stats64 function pointer. net: gtp: Leverage core stats allocator With commit 34d21de99cea9 ("net: Move {l,t,d}stats allocation to core and convert veth & vrf"), stats allocation could be done on net core instead of in this driver. With this new approach, the driver doesn't have to bother with error handling (allocation failure checking, making sure free happens in the right spot, etc). This is core responsibility now. Remove the allocation in the gtp driver and leverage the network core allocation instead. gtp: Fix use-after-free in __gtp_encap_destroy(). syzkaller reported use-after-free in __gtp_encap_destroy(). [0] It shows the same process freed sk and touched it illegally. Commit e198987e7dd7 ("gtp: fix suspicious RCU usage") added lock_sock() and release_sock() in __gtp_encap_destroy() to protect sk->sk_user_data, but release_sock() is called after sock_put() releases the last refcnt. genetlink: start to validate reserved header bytes We had historically not checked that genlmsghdr.reserved is 0 on input which prevents us from using those precious bytes in the future. One use case would be to extend the cmd field, which is currently just 8 bits wide and 256 is not a lot of commands for some core families. To make sure that new families do the right thing by default put the onus of opting out of validation on existing families. gtp: Implement GTP echo request Adding GTP device through ip link creates the situation where GTP instance is not able to send GTP echo requests. Echo requests are used to check if GTP peer is still alive. With this patch, gtp_genl_ops are extended by new cmd (GTP_CMD_ECHOREQ) which allows to send echo request in the given version of GTP protocol (v0 or v1), from the given ms address to he given peer. TID is not inclued because in all path management messages it should be equal to 0. When GTP echo response is detected, multicast message is send to everyone in the gtp_genl_family. Message contains GTP version, ms address and peer address. gtp: Implement GTP echo response Adding GTP device through ip link creates the situation where there is no userspace daemon which would handle GTP messages (Echo Request for example). GTP-U instance which would not respond to echo requests would violate GTP specification. When GTP packet arrives with GTP_ECHO_REQ message type, GTP_ECHO_RSP is send to the sender. GTP_ECHO_RSP message should contain information element with GTPIE_RECOVERY tag and restart counter value. For GTPv1 restart counter is not used and should be equal to 0, for GTPv0 restart counter contains information provided from userspace(IFLA_GTP_RESTART_COUNT). gtp: Allow to create GTP device without FDs Currently, when the user wants to create GTP device, he has to provide file handles to the sockets created in userspace (IFLA_GTP_FD0, IFLA_GTP_FD1). This behaviour is not ideal, considering the option of adding support for GTP device creation through ip link. Ip link application is not a good place to create such sockets. This patch allows to create GTP device without providing IFLA_GTP_FD0 and IFLA_GTP_FD1 arguments. If the user sets IFLA_GTP_CREATE_SOCKETS attribute, then GTP module takes care of creating UDP sockets by itself. Sockets are created with the commonly known UDP ports used for GTP protocol (GTP0_PORT and GTP1U_PORT). In this case we don't have to provide encap_destroy because no extra deinitialization is needed, everything is covered by udp_tunnel_sock_release. Note: GTP instance created with only this change applied, does not handle GTP Echo Requests. This is implemented in the following patch. net: dev: Makes sure netif_rx() can be invoked in any context. Dave suggested a while ago (eleven years by now) "Let's make netif_rx() work in all contexts and get rid of netif_rx_ni()". Eric agreed and pointed out that modern devices should use netif_receive_skb() to avoid the overhead. In the meantime someone added another variant, netif_rx_any_context(), which behaves as suggested. netif_rx() must be invoked with disabled bottom halves to ensure that pending softirqs, which were raised within the function, are handled. netif_rx_ni() can be invoked only from process context (bottom halves must be enabled) because the function handles pending softirqs without checking if bottom halves were disabled or not. netif_rx_any_context() invokes on the former functions by checking in_interrupts(). netif_rx() could be taught to handle both cases (disabled and enabled bottom halves) by simply disabling bottom halves while invoking netif_rx_internal(). The local_bh_enable() invocation will then invoke pending softirqs only if the BH-disable counter drops to zero. Eric is concerned about the overhead of BH-disable+enable especially in regard to the loopback driver. As critical as this driver is, it will receive a shortcut to avoid the additional overhead which is not needed. Add a local_bh_disable() section in netif_rx() to ensure softirqs are handled if needed. Provide __netif_rx() which does not disable BH and has a lockdep assert to ensure that interrupts are disabled. Use this shortcut in the loopback driver and in drivers/net/*.c. Make netif_rx_ni() and netif_rx_any_context() invoke netif_rx() so they can be removed once they are no more users left. net: icmp: pass zeroed opts from icmp{,v6}_ndo_send before sending The icmp{,v6}_send functions make all sorts of use of skb->cb, casting it with IPCB or IP6CB, assuming the skb to have come directly from the inet layer. But when the packet comes from the ndo layer, especially when forwarded, there's no telling what might be in skb->cb at that point. As a result, the icmp sending code risks reading bogus memory contents, which can result in nasty stack overflows such as this one reported by a user: panic+0x108/0x2ea __stack_chk_fail+0x14/0x20 __icmp_send+0x5bd/0x5c0 icmp_ndo_send+0x148/0x160 In icmp_send, skb->cb is cast with IPCB and an ip_options struct is read from it. The optlen parameter there is of particular note, as it can induce writes beyond bounds. There are quite a few ways that can happen in __ip_options_echo. For example: // sptr/skb are attacker-controlled skb bytes sptr = skb_network_header(skb); // dptr/dopt points to stack memory allocated by __icmp_send dptr = dopt->__data; // sopt is the corrupt skb->cb in question if (sopt->rr) { optlen = sptr[sopt->rr+1]; // corrupt skb->cb + skb->data soffset = sptr[sopt->rr+2]; // corrupt skb->cb + skb->data // this now writes potentially attacker-controlled data, over // flowing the stack: memcpy(dptr, sptr+sopt->rr, optlen); } In the icmpv6_send case, the story is similar, but not as dire, as only IP6CB(skb)->iif and IP6CB(skb)->dsthao are used. The dsthao case is worse than the iif case, but it is passed to ipv6_find_tlv, which does a bit of bounds checking on the value. This is easy to simulate by doing a `memset(skb->cb, 0x41, sizeof(skb->cb));` before calling icmp{,v6}_ndo_send, and it's only by good fortune and the rarity of icmp sending from that context that we've avoided reports like this until now. For example, in KASAN: BUG: KASAN: stack-out-of-bounds in __ip_options_echo+0xa0e/0x12b0 Write of size 38 at addr ffff888006f1f80e by task ping/89 CPU: 2 PID: 89 Comm: ping Not tainted 5.10.0-rc7-debug+ #5 Call Trace: dump_stack+0x9a/0xcc print_address_description.constprop.0+0x1a/0x160 __kasan_report.cold+0x20/0x38 kasan_report+0x32/0x40 check_memory_region+0x145/0x1a0 memcpy+0x39/0x60 __ip_options_echo+0xa0e/0x12b0 __icmp_send+0x744/0x1700 Actually, out of the 4 drivers that do this, only gtp zeroed the cb for the v4 case, while the rest did not. So this commit actually removes the gtp-specific zeroing, while putting the code where it belongs in the shared infrastructure of icmp{,v6}_ndo_send. This commit fixes the issue by passing an empty IPCB or IP6CB along to the functions that actually do the work. For the icmp_send, this was already trivial, thanks to __icmp_send providing the plumbing function. For icmpv6_send, this required a tiny bit of refactoring to make it behave like the v4 case, after which it was straight forward. gtp: set initial MTU The GTP link is brought up with a default MTU of zero. This can lead to some rather unexpected behaviour for users who are more accustomed to interfaces coming online with reasonable defaults. This patch sets an initial MTU for the GTP link of 1500 less worst-case tunnel overhead. Revert "GTP: add support for flow based tunneling API" This reverts commit 9ab7e76aefc97a9aa664accb59d6e8dc5e52514a. This patch was committed without maintainer approval and despite a number of unaddressed concerns from review. There are several issues that impede the acceptance of this patch and that make a reversion of this particular instance of these changes the best way forward: i) the patch contains several logically separate changes that would be better served as smaller patches (for review purposes) ii) functionality like the handling of end markers has been introduced without further explanation iii) symmetry between the handling of GTPv0 and GTPv1 has been unnecessarily broken iv) the patchset produces 'broken' packets when extension headers are included v) there are no available userspace tools to allow for testing this functionality vi) there is an unaddressed Coverity report against the patch concering memory leakage vii) most importantly, the patch contains a large amount of superfluous churn that impedes other ongoing work with this driver This patch will be reworked into a series that aligns with other ongoing work and facilitates review. gtp: use __GFP_NOWARN to avoid memalloc warning gtp hashtable size is received by user-space. So, this hashtable size could be too large. If so, kmalloc will internally print a warning message. gtp: do not confirm neighbor when do pmtu update When do IPv6 tunnel PMTU update and calls __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() in the end, we should not call dst_confirm_neigh() as there is no two-way communication. Although GTP only support ipv4 right now, and __ip_rt_update_pmtu() does not call dst_confirm_neigh(), we still set it to false to keep consistency with IPv6 code. v5: No change. v4: No change. v3: Do not remove dst_confirm_neigh, but add a new bool parameter in dst_ops.update_pmtu to control whether we should do neighbor confirm. net: add bool confirm_neigh parameter for dst_ops.update_pmtu The MTU update code is supposed to be invoked in response to real networking events that update the PMTU. In IPv6 PMTU update function __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() we called dst_confirm_neigh() to update neighbor confirmed time. But for tunnel code, it will call pmtu before xmit, like: - tnl_update_pmtu() - skb_dst_update_pmtu() - ip6_rt_update_pmtu() - __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() - dst_confirm_neigh() If the tunnel remote dst mac address changed and we still do the neigh confirm, we will not be able to update neigh cache and ping6 remote will failed. So for this ip_tunnel_xmit() case, _EVEN_ if the MTU is changed, we should not be invoking dst_confirm_neigh() as we have no evidence of successful two-way communication at this point. On the other hand it is also important to keep the neigh reachability fresh for TCP flows, so we cannot remove this dst_confirm_neigh() call. To fix the issue, we have to add a new bool parameter for dst_ops.update_pmtu to choose whether we should do neigh update or not. I will add the parameter in this patch and set all the callers to true to comply with the previous way, and fix the tunnel code one by one on later patches. v5: No change. v4: No change. v3: Do not remove dst_confirm_neigh, but add a new bool parameter in dst_ops.update_pmtu to control whether we should do neighbor confirm. Also split the big patch to small ones for each area. v2: Remove dst_confirm_neigh in __ip6_rt_update_pmtu. gtp: fix an use-after-free in ipv4_pdp_find() ipv4_pdp_find() is called in TX packet path of GTP. ipv4_pdp_find() internally uses gtp->tid_hash to lookup pdp context. In the current code, gtp->tid_hash and gtp->addr_hash are freed by ->dellink(), which is gtp_dellink(). But gtp_dellink() would be called while packets are processing. So, gtp_dellink() should not free gtp->tid_hash and gtp->addr_hash. Instead, dev->priv_destructor() would be used because this callback is called after all packet processing safely. gtp: fix wrong condition in gtp_genl_dump_pdp() gtp_genl_dump_pdp() is ->dumpit() callback of GTP module and it is used to dump pdp contexts. it would be re-executed because of dump packet size. If dump packet size is too big, it saves current dump pointer (gtp interface pointer, bucket, TID value) then it restarts dump from last pointer. Current GTP code allows adding zero TID pdp context but dump code ignores zero TID value. So, last dump pointer will not be found. In addition, this patch adds missing rcu_read_lock() in gtp_genl_dump_pdp(). gtp: fix use-after-free in gtp_encap_destroy() gtp_encap_destroy() is called twice. 1. When interface is deleted. 2. When udp socket is destroyed. either gtp->sk0 or gtp->sk1u could be freed by sock_put() in gtp_encap_destroy(). so, when gtp_encap_destroy() is called again, it would uses freed sk pointer. patch makes gtp_encap_destroy() to set either gtp->sk0 or gtp->sk1u to null. in addition, both gtp->sk0 and gtp->sk1u pointer are protected by rtnl_lock. so, rtnl_lock() is added. genetlink: make policy common to family Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely, so make it common as well. The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but we can fake it using pre_doit. This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands): text data bss dec hex filename 398745 14323 2240 415308 6564c net/wireless/nl80211.o (before) 397913 14331 2240 414484 65314 net/wireless/nl80211.o (after) -------------------------------- -832 +8 0 -824 Which is obviously just 8 bytes for each command, and an added 8 bytes for the new policy pointer. I'm not sure why the ops list is counted as .text though. Most of the code transformations were done using the following spatch: @ops@ identifier OPS; expression POLICY; @@ struct genl_ops OPS[] = { ..., { - .policy = POLICY, }, ... }; @@ identifier ops.OPS; expression ops.POLICY; identifier fam; expression M; @@ struct genl_family fam = { .ops = OPS, .maxattr = M, + .policy = POLICY, ... }; This also gets rid of devlink_nl_cmd_region_read_dumpit() accessing the cb->data as ops, which we want to change in a later genl patch. treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array() The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. net: Fix inconsistent teardown and release of private netdev state. Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources can occur in one of two different places. Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor(). The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it is safe to perform the freeing. netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast address lists are flushed. netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the netdev references all go away. Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor() almost universally does also a free_netdev(). This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice(). Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice() fails. If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor(). This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same. However, this means that the resources that would normally be released by netdev->destructor() will not be. Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice() fails. Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks. Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev(). netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for free_netdev(). netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice(). Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit() and netdev->priv_destructor(). And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

gtp: support SGSN-side tunnels The GTP-tunnel driver is explicitly GGSN-side as it searches for PDP contexts based on the incoming packets _destination_ address. If we want to place ourselves on the SGSN side of the tunnel, then we want to be identifying PDP contexts based on _source_ address. Let it be noted that in a "real" configuration this module would never be used: the SGSN normally does not see IP packets as input. The justification for this functionality is for PGW load-testing applications where the input to the SGSN is locally generally IP traffic. This patch adds a "role" argument at GTP-link creation time to specify whether we are on the GGSN or SGSN side of the tunnel; this flag is then used to determine which part of the IP packet to use in determining the PDP context. gtp: rename SGSN netlink attribute This is a mostly cosmetic rename of the SGSN netlink attribute to the GTP link. The justification for this is that we will be making the module support decapsulation of "downstream" SGSN packets, in which case the netlink parameter actually refers to the upstream GGSN peer. Renaming the parameter makes the relationship clearer. The legacy name is maintained as a define in the header file in order to not break existing code. netns: make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned int Make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned. There are 2 reasons to do so: 1) This field is really an index into an zero based array and thus is unsigned entity. Using negative value is out-of-bound access by definition. 2) On x86_64 unsigned 32-bit data which are mixed with pointers via array indexing or offsets added or subtracted to pointers are preffered to signed 32-bit data. "int" being used as an array index needs to be sign-extended to 64-bit before being used. void f(long *p, int i) { g(p[i]); } roughly translates to movsx rsi, esi mov rdi, [rsi+...] call g MOVSX is 3 byte instruction which isn't necessary if the variable is unsigned because x86_64 is zero extending by default. Now, there is net_generic() function which, you guessed it right, uses "int" as an array index: static inline void *net_generic(const struct net *net, int id) { ... ptr = ng->ptr[id - 1]; ... } And this function is used a lot, so those sign extensions add up. Patch snipes ~1730 bytes on allyesconfig kernel (without all junk messing with code generation): add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 70/598 up/down: 396/-2126 (-1730) Unfortunately some functions actually grow bigger. This is a semmingly random artefact of code generation with register allocator being used differently. gcc decides that some variable needs to live in new r8+ registers and every access now requires REX prefix. Or it is shifted into r12, so [r12+0] addressing mode has to be used which is longer than [r8] However, overall balance is in negative direction: add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 70/598 up/down: 396/-2126 (-1730) function old new delta nfsd4_lock 3886 3959 +73 tipc_link_build_proto_msg 1096 1140 +44 mac80211_hwsim_new_radio 2776 2808 +32 tipc_mon_rcv 1032 1058 +26 svcauth_gss_legacy_init 1413 1429 +16 tipc_bcbase_select_primary 379 392 +13 nfsd4_exchange_id 1247 1260 +13 nfsd4_setclientid_confirm 782 793 +11 ... put_client_renew_locked 494 480 -14 ip_set_sockfn_get 730 716 -14 geneve_sock_add 829 813 -16 nfsd4_sequence_done 721 703 -18 nlmclnt_lookup_host 708 686 -22 nfsd4_lockt 1085 1063 -22 nfs_get_client 1077 1050 -27 tcf_bpf_init 1106 1076 -30 nfsd4_encode_fattr 5997 5930 -67 Total: Before=154856051, After=154854321, chg -0.00% Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. genetlink: mark families as __ro_after_init Now genl_register_family() is the only thing (other than the users themselves, perhaps, but I didn't find any doing that) writing to the family struct. In all families that I found, genl_register_family() is only called from __init functions (some indirectly, in which case I've add __init annotations to clarifly things), so all can actually be marked __ro_after_init. genetlink: no longer support using static family IDs Static family IDs have never really been used, the only use case was the workaround I introduced for those users that assumed their family ID was also their multicast group ID. Additionally, because static family IDs would never be reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively low ID would only work for built-in families that can be registered immediately after generic netlink is started, which is basically only the control family (apart from the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so it would reserve those IDs) Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. gtp: add initial driver for datapath of GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP-U) This is an initial implementation of a netdev driver for GTP datapath (GTP-U) v0 and v1, according to the GSM TS 09.60 and 3GPP TS 29.060 standards. This tunneling protocol is used to prevent subscribers from accessing mobile carrier core network infrastructure. This implementation requires a GGSN userspace daemon that implements the signaling protocol (GTP-C), such as OpenGGSN [1]. This userspace daemon updates the PDP context database that represents active subscriber sessions through a genetlink interface. For more context on this tunneling protocol, you can check the slides that were presented during the NetDev 1.1 [2]. Only IPv4 is supported at this time.
