ixgbe: Add 1000BASE-BX support Added support for 1000BASE-BX, i.e. Gigabit Ethernet over single strand of single-mode fiber. The initialization of a 1000BASE-BX SFP is the same as 1000BASE-SX/LX with the only difference that the Bit Rate Nominal Value must be checked to make sure it is a Gigabit Ethernet transceiver, as described by the SFF-8472 specification. ethtool: replace struct ethtool_eee with a new struct ethtool_keee on kernel side In order to pass EEE link modes beyond bit 32 to userspace we have to complement the 32 bit bitmaps in struct ethtool_eee with linkmode bitmaps. Therefore, similar to ethtool_link_settings and ethtool_link_ksettings, add a struct ethtool_keee. In a first step it's an identical copy of ethtool_eee. This patch simply does a s/ethtool_eee/ethtool_keee/g for all users. No functional change intended. net: ethtool: pass a pointer to parameters to get/set_rxfh ethtool ops The get/set_rxfh ethtool ops currently takes the rxfh (RSS) parameters as direct function arguments. This will force us to change the API (and all drivers' functions) every time some new parameters are added. This is part 1/2 of the fix, as suggested in [1]: - First simplify the code by always providing a pointer to all params (indir, key and func); the fact that some of them may be NULL seems like a weird historic thing or a premature optimization. It will simplify the drivers if all pointers are always present. - Then make the functions take a dev pointer, and a pointer to a single struct wrapping all arguments. ixgbe: Enable setting RSS table to default values ethtool uses `ETHTOOL_GRXRINGS` to compute how many queues are supported by RSS. The driver should return the smaller of either: - The maximum number of RSS queues the device supports, OR - The number of RX queues configured Prior to this change, running `ethtool -X $iface default` fails if the number of queues configured is larger than the number supported by RSS, even though changing the queue count correctly resets the flowhash to use all supported queues. Other drivers (for example, i40e) will succeed but the flow hash will reset to support the maximum number of queues supported by RSS, even if that amount is smaller than the configured amount. Prior to this change: $ sudo ethtool -L eth1 combined 20 $ sudo ethtool -x eth1 RX flow hash indirection table for eth1 with 20 RX ring(s): 0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8: 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 24: 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 32: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... You can see that the flowhash was correctly set to use the maximum number of queues supported by the driver (16). However, asking the NIC to reset to "default" fails: $ sudo ethtool -X eth1 default Cannot set RX flow hash configuration: Invalid argument After this change, the flowhash can be reset to default which will use all of the available RSS queues (16) or the configured queue count, whichever is smaller. Starting with eth1 which has 10 queues and a flowhash distributing to all 10 queues: $ sudo ethtool -x eth1 RX flow hash indirection table for eth1 with 10 RX ring(s): 0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8: 8 9 0 1 2 3 4 5 16: 6 7 8 9 0 1 2 3 ... Increasing the queue count to 48 resets the flowhash to distribute to 16 queues, as it did before this patch: $ sudo ethtool -L eth1 combined 48 $ sudo ethtool -x eth1 RX flow hash indirection table for eth1 with 16 RX ring(s): 0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8: 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... ixgbe: Allow flow hash to be set via ethtool ixgbe currently returns `EINVAL` whenever the flowhash it set by ethtool because the ethtool code in the kernel passes a non-zero value for hfunc that ixgbe should allow. When ethtool is called with `ETHTOOL_SRXFHINDIR`, `ethtool_set_rxfh_indir` will call ixgbe's set_rxfh function with `ETH_RSS_HASH_NO_CHANGE`. This value should be accepted. When ethtool is called with `ETHTOOL_SRSSH`, `ethtool_set_rxfh` will call ixgbe's set_rxfh function with `rxfh.hfunc`, which appears to be hardcoded in ixgbe to always be `ETH_RSS_HASH_TOP`. This value should also be accepted. ixgbe: change MAX_RXD/MAX_TXD based on adapter type Set the length limit for the receive descriptor buffer and transmit descriptor buffer based on the controller type. The values used are called out in the controller datasheets as a 'Note:' in the RDLEN and TDLEN register descriptions. This allows the user to use ethtool to allocate larger descriptor buffers in the case where data is received or transmitted too quickly for the driver to keep up. ixgbe: add improvement for MDD response functionality The 82599 PF driver disable VF driver after a special MDD event occurs. Adds the option for administrators to control whether VFs are automatically disabled after several MDD events. The automatically disabling is now the default mode for 82599 PF driver, as it is more reliable. This addresses CVE-2021-33061. This is due to the fact that the maximum value of num_xdp_queues is nr_cpu_ids. Code is in "ixgbe_set_rss_queues"". ixgbe: Cleanup unneeded delay in ethtool test There is a 4 seconds delay in ixgbe_diag_test() that is holding up other ioctls such as SIOCGIFCONF that Oracle database applications use. One of Oracle's product runs "ethtool -t ethX online" periodically for system monitoring and that is impacting database applications that use SIOCGIFCONF at that same time. This 4 second delay was needed in out early 1GbE parts to give the PHY time to recover from a reset. This code was carried forward to the 10 GbE driver even it was not needed for the supported PHYs in the ixgbe driver. net/intel: remove driver versions from Intel drivers As with other networking drivers, remove the unnecessary driver version from the Intel drivers. The ethtool driver information and module version will then report the kernel version instead. For ixgbe, i40e and ice drivers, the driver passes the driver version to the firmware to confirm that we are up and running. So we now pass the value of UTS_RELEASE to the firmware. This adminq call is required per the HAS document. The Device then sends an indication to the BMC that the PF driver is present. This is done using Host NC Driver Status Indication in NC-SI Get Link command or via the Host Network Controller Driver Status Change AEN. What the BMC may do with this information is implementation-dependent, but this is a standard NC-SI 1.1 command we honor per the HAS. ixgbe: Check DDM existence in transceiver before access Some transceivers may comply with SFF-8472 but not implement the Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) interface described in it. The existence of such area is specified by bit 6 of byte 92, set to 1 if implemented. Currently, due to not checking this bit ixgbe fails trying to read SFP module's eeprom with the follow message: ethtool -m enP51p1s0f0 Cannot get Module EEPROM data: Input/output error Because it fails to read the additional 256 bytes in which it was assumed to exist the DDM data. This issue was noticed using a Mellanox Passive DAC PN 01FT738. The eeprom data was confirmed by Mellanox as correct and present in other Passive DACs in from other manufacturers. ixgbe: Refactor queue disable logic to take completion time into account This change is meant to allow us to take completion time into account when disabling queues. Previously we were just working with hard coded values for how long we should wait. This worked fine for the standard case where completion timeout was operating in the 50us to 50ms range, however on platforms that have higher completion timeout times this was resulting in Rx queues disable messages being displayed as we weren't waiting long enough for outstanding Rx DMA completions. treewide: Use array_size() in vmalloc() The vmalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of: vmalloc(a * b) with: vmalloc(array_size(a, b)) as well as handling cases of: vmalloc(a * b * c) with: vmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c)) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: vmalloc(4 * 1024) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array() The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). ixgbe: Don't assume dev->num_tc is equal to hardware TC config The code throughout ixgbe was assuming that dev->num_tc was populated and configured with the driver, when in fact this can be configured via mqprio without any hardware coordination other than restricting us to the real number of Tx queues we advertise. Instead of handling things this way we need to keep a local copy of the number of TCs in use so that we don't accidentally pull in the TC configuration from mqprio when it is configured in software mode. ixgbe: add counter for times Rx pages gets allocated, not recycled The ixgbe driver have page recycle scheme based around the RX-ring queue, where a RX page is shared between two packets. Based on the refcnt, the driver can determine if the RX-page is currently only used by a single packet, if so it can then directly refill/recycle the RX-slot by with the opposite "side" of the page. While this is a clever trick, it is hard to determine when this recycling is successful and when it fails. Adding a counter, which is available via ethtool --statistics as 'alloc_rx_page'. Which counts the number of times the recycle fails and the real page allocator is invoked. When interpreting the stats, do remember that every alloc will serve two packets. The counter is collected per rx_ring, but is summed and ethtool exported as 'alloc_rx_page'. It would be relevant to know what rx_ring that cannot keep up, but that can be exported later if someone experience a need for this. ixgbe: split Tx/Rx ring clearing for ethtool loopback test Commit: fed21bcee7a5 ("ixgbe: Don't bother clearing buffer memory for descriptor rings) exposed some issues with the logic in the current implementation of ixgbe_clean_test_rings() that are being addressed in this patch: - Split the clearing of the Tx and Rx rings in separate loops. Previously both Tx and Rx rings were cleared in a rx_desc->wb.upper.length based loop which could lead to issues if for w/e reason packets were received outside of the frames transmitted for the loopback test. - Add check for IXGBE_TXD_STAT_DD to avoid clearing the rings if the transmits have not comlpeted by the time we enter ixgbe_clean_test_rings() - Exit early on ixgbe_check_lbtest_frame() failure. This change fixes a crash during ethtool diagnostic (ethtool -t). ixgbe: Check for RSS key before setting value The RSS key is being repopulated every time the interface is brought up regardless of whether there is an existing value. If the user sets the RSS key and the interface is brought up (e.g. reset), the user specified RSS key will be overwritten. This patch changes the rss_key to a pointer so we can check to see if the key has been populated and preserve it accordingly. ixgbe: add support for XDP_TX action A couple design choices were made here. First I use a new ring pointer structure xdp_ring[] in the adapter struct instead of pushing the newly allocated XDP TX rings into the tx_ring[] structure. This means we have to duplicate loops around rings in places we want to initialize both TX rings and XDP rings. But by making it explicit it is obvious when we are using XDP rings and when we are using TX rings. Further we don't have to do ring arithmatic which is error prone. As a proof point for doing this my first patches used only a single ring structure and introduced bugs in FCoE code and macvlan code paths. Second I am aware this is not the most optimized version of this code possible. I want to get baseline support in using the most readable format possible and then once this series is included I will optimize the TX path in another series of patches. ixgbe: Don't bother clearing buffer memory for descriptor rings This patch makes it so that we don't need to bother with clearing the memory out for the descriptor rings. The general idea is to only free buffers associated with buffers in use which are located between the next_to_clean and next_to_use or next_to_alloc values. Everything outside of those regions can be safely ignored since they should have no buffers associated with them. The advantage to doing things this way is that is should speed up bring-up and tear-down of the rings. Specifically we can avoid the 512 or more cycles required to memset the rings in tear-down. In the bring-up phase we then clear the memory as a part of initialization. The general idea is that the clearing in initialization can act as a prefetch of sorts for the buffer info structures so they are in the local CPU when we go to populate them. This should help to improve overall time needed to perform a suspend/resume. ixgbe: Add private flag to control buffer mode Since there are potential drawbacks to the new Rx allocation approach I thought it best to add a "chicken bit" so that we can turn the feature off if in the event that a problem is found. It also provides a means of validating the legacy Rx path in the event that we are forced to fall back. At some point in the future when we are convinced we don't need it anymore we might be able to drop the legacy-rx flag. ixgbe: Use length to determine if descriptor is done This change makes it so that we use the length of the packet instead of the DD status bit to determine if a new descriptor is ready to be processed. The obvious advantage is that it cuts down on reads as we don't really even need the DD bit if going from a 0 to a non-zero value on size is enough to inform us that the packet has been completed. ixgbe: use BIT() macro Several areas of ixgbe were written before widespread usage of the BIT(n) macro. With the impending release of GCC 6 and its associated new warnings, some usages such as (1 << 31) have been noted within the ixgbe driver source. Fix these wholesale and prevent future issues by simply using BIT macro instead of hand coded bit shifts. Also fix a few shifts that are shifting values into place by using the 'u' prefix to indicate unsigned. It doesn't strictly matter in these cases because we're not shifting by too large a value, but these are all unsigned values and should be indicated as such. This initial implementation only implements a few base matches and actions to illustrate the use of the infrastructure patches. ixgbe: do not call check_link for ethtool in ixgbe_get_settings() In ixgbe_get_settings() the link status and speed of the interface are determined based on a read from the LINKS register via the call to mac.ops.check.link(). This can cause issues where external drivers may end up with unknown speed when calling ethtool_get_setings(). Instead of calling the mac.ops.check_link() we can report the speed from the adapter structure which is populated by the driver. ixgbe: Limit lowest interrupt rate for adaptive interrupt moderation to 12K This patch updates the lowest limit for adaptive interrupt interrupt moderation to roughly 12K interrupts per second. The way I came about reaching 12K as the desired interrupt rate is by testing with UDP flows. Specifically I had a simple test that ran a netperf UDP_STREAM test at varying sizes. What I found was as the packet sizes increased the performance fell steadily behind until we were only able to receive at ~4Gb/s with a message size of 65507. A bit of digging found that we were dropping packets for the socket in the network stack, and looking at things further what I found was I could solve it by increasing the interrupt rate, or increasing the rmem_default/rmem_max. What I found was that when the interrupt coalescing resulted in more data being processed per interrupt than could be stored in the socket buffer we started losing packets and the performance dropped. So I reached 12K based on the following math. rmem_default = 212992 skb->truesize = 2994 212992 / 2994 = 71.14 packets to fill the buffer packet rate at 1514 packet size is 812744pps 71.14 / 812744 = 87.9us to fill socket buffer From there it was just a matter of choosing the interrupt rate and providing a bit of wiggle room which is why I decided to go with 12K interrupts per second as that uses a value of 84us. The data below is based on VM to VM over a direct assigned ixgbe interface. ixgbe: add array of MAC type dependent values Some of the register addresses and format where unfortunately changed between MAC types. To get around this we add a const u32 *mvals pointer to the ixgbe_hw struct to point to an array of mac-type-dependent values. These can include register offsets, masks, whatever can be in a u32. When the ixgbe_hw struct is initialized, a pointer to the appropriate array must be set. ixgbe: Allow flow director to use entire queue space Flow director is exported to user space using the ethtool ntuple support. However, currently it only supports steering traffic to a subset of the queues in use by the hardware. This change allows flow director to specify queues that have been assigned to virtual functions by partitioning the ring_cookie into a 8bit VF specifier followed by 32bit queue index. At the moment we don't have any ethernet drivers with more than 2^32 queues on a single function as best I can tell and nor do I expect this to happen anytime soon. This way the ring_cookie's normal use for specifying a queue on a specific PCI function continues to work as expected. ixgbe: fix detection of SFP+ capable interfaces In cases where the driver is loaded while there are no SFP+ modules in the cage the interface was not being detected as SFP capable. To account for this the driver called identify_sfp in ixgbe_get_settings to make sure the data is correct. However when there is no SFP+ module in the cage the driver waits for the I2C reads to time out which can take more than a second and will cause issues with tools (like net-snmp) that may poll for that information. This patch resolves the issue by identifying interfaces with no PHY type set as SFP capable which allows the driver to detect the SFP module when the interface is brought up. As result of this we can also remove the identify_sfp call from ixgbe_get_settings. v2: remove the 82599 specific check since we have 82598 devices that are SFP capable. ixgbe: remove marketing names from busy poll code This patch renames the LL_EXTENDED_STATS and some of the functions required to implement busy polling in the ixgbe driver, in order to remove the marketing "low latency" blurb which hides what the code actually does. This patch adds logic in ethtool to allow setting and reporting the advertised speed at either 1Gbps or 10Gbps, but not both. Also limits the speed set in ixgbe_sfp_link_config_subtask() to highest supported. Previously the link was set to whatever the supported speeds were. hlist: drop the node parameter from iterators I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member) The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter: hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member) Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate. Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required: - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones. - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this was modified to use 'obj->member' instead. - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator properly, so those had to be fixed up manually. ixgbe: add missing supported filters to get_ts_info This patch updates the filters for ethtool's get_ts_info to return support for all filters which can be supported by upscaling to ptp_v2_event. The intent behind this change is due to reasoning that we do in fact support the filters. (hwtstamp_ioctl returns success after setting the filter to the upscaled version). In this way we can remain consistent over which filters are supported via the get_ts_info ioctl and which filters are in practice actually supported. ixgbe: ethtool ixgbe_diag_test cleanup This patch cleans up the ethtool diagnostics test by ensuring that the tests work properly regardless of what state the adapter was in. The SRIOV VF check is done at the beginning, forgoing the link test. The if_running -> dev_close is moved before the link test, as well as a call to enable the Tx laser. This ensures that the link test will return valid results even when adapter was previously down. Also, a call to disable the Tx laser is added if the device was down before the start. This ensures consistent behavior of the Tx laser before and after the diagnostic checks. The end result is consistent behavior regardless of device state. ixgbe: ethtool correctly identify autoneg setting This patch enables ethtool to correctly identify flow control (pause frame) auto negotiation, as well as disallow enabling it when it is not supported. ixgbe: Fix possible memory leak in ixgbe_set_ringparam We were not correctly freeing the temporary rings on error in ixgbe_set_ring_param. In order to correct this I am unwinding a number of changes that were made in order to get things back to the original working form with modification for the current ring layouts. This approach has multiple advantages including a smaller memory footprint, and the fact that the interface is stopped while we are allocating the rings meaning that there is less potential for some sort of memory corruption on the ring. The only disadvantage I see with this approach is that on a Rx allocation failure we will report an error and only update the Tx rings. However the adapter should be fully functional in this state and the likelihood of such an error is very low. In addition it is not unreasonable to expect the user to need to recheck the ring configuration should they experience an error setting the ring sizes. We were using num_msix_vectors to find the number of q_vectors in multiple places. ixgbe: Clean up priority based flow control This change cleans up the logic in the priority based flow control configuration routines. Both the 82599 and 82598 based routines perform similar functions however they are both arranged completely differently. This patch goes over both of them to clean up the code. In addition I am dropping the ixgbe_fc_pfc flow control mode and instead just replacing it with checks for if priority flow control is enabled. This allows us to maintain some of the link flow control information which allows for an easier transition between link and priority flow control. igb, ixgbe: netdev_tx_reset_queue incorrectly called from tx init path igb and ixgbe incorrectly call netdev_tx_reset_queue() from i{gb|xgbe}_clean_tx_ring() this sort of works in most cases except when the number of real tx queues changes. When the number of real tx queues changes netdev_tx_reset_queue() only gets called on the new number of queues so when we reduce the number of queues we risk triggering the watchdog timer and repeated device resets. So this is not only a cosmetic issue but causes real bugs. For example enabling/disabling DCB or FCoE in ixgbe will trigger this. ixgbe: Correct flag values set by ixgbe_fix_features This patch replaces the variable name data with the variable name features for ixgbe_fix_features and ixgbe_set_features. This helps to make some issues more obvious such as the fact that we were disabling Rx VLAN tag stripping when we should have been forcing it to be enabled when DCB is enabled. In addition there was deprecated code present that was disabling the LRO flag if we had the itr value set too low. I have updated this logic so that we will now allow the LRO flag to be set, but will not enable RSC until the rx-usecs value is high enough to allow enough time for Rx packet coalescing. ixgbe: Replace standard receive path with a page based receive This patch replaces the existing Rx hot-path in the ixgbe driver with a new implementation that is based on performing a double buffered receive. The ixgbe driver already had something similar in place for its' packet split path, however in that case we were still receiving the header for the packet into the sk_buff. The big change here is the entire receive path will receive into pages only, and then pull the header out of the page and copy it into the sk_buff data. There are several motivations behind this approach. First, this allows us to avoid several cache misses as we were taking a set of cache misses for allocating the sk_buff and then another set for receiving data into the sk_buff. We are able to avoid these misses on receive now as we allocate the sk_buff when data is available. Second we are able to see a considerable performance gain when an IOMMU is enabled because we are no longer unmapping every buffer on receive. Instead we can delay the unmap until we are unable to use the page, and instead we can simply call sync_single_range on the half of the page that contains new data. Finally we are able to drop a considerable amount of code from the driver as we no longer have to support 2 different receive modes, packet split and one buffer. This allows us to optimize the Rx path further since less branching is required. ixgbe: Simplify logic for ethtool loopback frame creation and testing This change makes it a bit easier to do the loopback frame creating and testing. Previously we were doing an and to drop the last bit, and then dividing the frame_size by 2 in order to get locations for frame bytes and testing. Instead we can simplify it by just shifting the register one bit to the right and using that for the frame offsets. This change also replaces all instances of rx_buffer_info with just rx_buffer since that is closer to the name of the actual structure being used and can save a few extra characters. In addition I have updated the logic for cleaning up a test frame so that we pass an rx_buffer instead of the sk_buff. The main motivation behind this is changes that will replace the sk_buff with just a page in the future. ixgbe: Allocate rings as part of the q_vector This patch makes the rings a part of the q_vector directly instead of indirectly. Specifically on x86 systems this helps to avoid any cache set conflicts between the q_vector, the tx_rings, and the rx_rings as the critical stride is 4K and in order to cross that boundary you would need to have over 15 rings on a single q_vector. In addition this allows for smarter allocations when Flow Director is enabled. Previously Flow Director would set the irq_affinity hints based on the CPU and was still using a node interleaving approach which on some systems would end up with the two values mismatched. With the new approach we can set the affinity for the irq_vector and use the CPU for that affinity to determine the node value for the node and the rings. ixgbe: ethtool: stats user buffer overrun If the number of tx/rx queues changes the ethtool ioctl ETHTOOL_GSTATS may overrun the userspace buffer. This occurs because the general practice in user space to query stats is to issue a ETHTOOL_GSSET cmd to learn the buffer size needed, allocate the buffer, then call ETHTOOL_GSTIRNGS and ETHTOOL_GSTATS. If the number of real_num_queues is changed or flow control attributes are changed after ETHTOOL_GSSET but before the ETHTOOL_GSTRINGS/ETHTOOL_GSTATS a user space buffer overrun occurs. To fix the overrun always return the max buffer size needed from get_sset_count() then return all strings and stats from get_strings()/get_ethtool_stats(). This _will_ change the output from the ioctl() call which could break applications and script parsing in theory. I believe these changes should not break existing tools because the only changes will be more {tx|rx}_queues and the {tx|rx}_pb_* stats will always be returned. Existing scripts already need to handle changing number of queues because this occurs today depending on system and current features. The {tx|rx}_pb_* stats are at the end of the output and should be handled by scripts today regardless. Finally get_ethtool_stats and get_strings are free-form outputs tools parsing these outputs should be defensive anyways. In the end these updates are better then having a tool segfault because of a buffer overrun. ixgbe: get pauseparam autoneg There is a problem in the ixgbe driver with the reporting of the flow control parameters. The autoneg parameter is shown to be of if *either* it really is off, or current modes for both tx and rx are off. The problem is seen when the parameters are read or set when the link is down. In this case, the driver sees that tx and rx are currently off and therefore autoneg parameter is incorrectly reported to be off too. Also, the ethtool binary can not set the autoneg off since it sees that it already is. When a link later comes up, the autonegotiation is carried out normally and the driver later on reports the autoneg parameter to be on (as it is) and then it can also be changed with ethtool. The patch is made against v3.0 kernel, but the problem seems to be there since v2.6.30-rc1. Reviewer comments: What we are trying to do is to disable flow control while the cable is disconnected. Since ixgbe defaults to full flow control, we call ethtool -A autoneg off rx off tx off while the cable is disconnected. This doesn't work, because the driver sets hw->fc.current_mode = ixgbe_fc_none if the cable is unplugged. ixgbe_get_pauseparam() then reports to ethtool that nothing needs to be done. The code fixes this, but it might have some unknown consequences. ixgbe: Cleanup q_vector interrupt throttle rate logic This patch is meant to help cleanup the interrupt throttle rate logic by storing the interrupt throttle rate as a value in microseconds instead of interrupts per second. The advantage to this approach is that the value can now be stored in an 16 bit field and doesn't require as much math to flip the value back and forth since the hardware already used microseconds when setting the rate. ixgbe: Make better use of memory allocations in one-buffer mode w/ RSC This patch improves the memory utilization with RSC when in one-buffer mode. This is accomplished by making the default buffer sizes match up with the standard memory allocation sizes minus 1K for shared info and padding overhead. By doing this CPU utilization when doing large receives can be reduced by as much as 8%. ethtool: Update ethtool_rxnfc::rule_cnt on return from ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL A user-space process must use ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLCNT to find the number of classification rules, then allocate a buffer of the right size, then use ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL to fill the buffer. If some other process inserts or deletes a rule between those two operations, the user buffer might turn out to be the wrong size. If it's too small, the return value will be -EMSGSIZE.
