net: ethernet: broadcom: Convert to platform remove callback returning void The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert these drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. net: systemport: Add global locking for descriptor lifecycle The descriptor list is a shared resource across all of the transmit queues, and the locking mechanism used today only protects concurrency across a given transmit queue between the transmit and reclaiming. This creates an opportunity for the SYSTEMPORT hardware to work on corrupted descriptors if we have multiple producers at once which is the case when using multiple transmit queues. This was particularly noticeable when using multiple flows/transmit queues and it showed up in interesting ways in that UDP packets would get a correct UDP header checksum being calculated over an incorrect packet length. Similarly TCP packets would get an equally correct checksum computed by the hardware over an incorrect packet length. The SYSTEMPORT hardware maintains an internal descriptor list that it re-arranges when the driver produces a new descriptor anytime it writes to the WRITE_PORT_{HI,LO} registers, there is however some delay in the hardware to re-organize its descriptors and it is possible that concurrent TX queues eventually break this internal allocation scheme to the point where the length/status part of the descriptor gets used for an incorrect data buffer. The fix is to impose a global serialization for all TX queues in the short section where we are writing to the WRITE_PORT_{HI,LO} registers which solves the corruption even with multiple concurrent TX queues being used. ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in drivers This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. of: net: pass the dst buffer to of_get_mac_address() of_get_mac_address() returns a "const void*" pointer to a MAC address. Lately, support to fetch the MAC address by an NVMEM provider was added. But this will only work with platform devices. It will not work with PCI devices (e.g. of an integrated root complex) and esp. not with DSA ports. There is an of_* variant of the nvmem binding which works without devices. The returned data of a nvmem_cell_read() has to be freed after use. On the other hand the return of_get_mac_address() points to some static data without a lifetime. The trick for now, was to allocate a device resource managed buffer which is then returned. This will only work if we have an actual device. Change it, so that the caller of of_get_mac_address() has to supply a buffer where the MAC address is written to. Unfortunately, this will touch all drivers which use the of_get_mac_address(). Usually the code looks like: const char *addr; addr = of_get_mac_address(np); if (!IS_ERR(addr)) ether_addr_copy(ndev->dev_addr, addr); This can then be simply rewritten as: of_get_mac_address(np, ndev->dev_addr); Sometimes is_valid_ether_addr() is used to test the MAC address. of_get_mac_address() already makes sure, it just returns a valid MAC address. Thus we can just test its return code. But we have to be careful if there are still other sources for the MAC address before the of_get_mac_address(). In this case we have to keep the is_valid_ether_addr() call. The following coccinelle patch was used to convert common cases to the new style. Afterwards, I've manually gone over the drivers and fixed the return code variable: either used a new one or if one was already available use that. Mansour Moufid, thanks for that coccinelle patch! <spml> @a@ identifier x; expression y, z; @@ - x = of_get_mac_address(y); + x = of_get_mac_address(y, z); <... - ether_addr_copy(z, x); ...> @@ identifier a.x; @@ - if (<+... x ...+>) {} @@ identifier a.x; @@ if (<+... x ...+>) { ... } - else {} @@ identifier a.x; expression e; @@ - if (<+... x ...+>@e) - {} - else + if (!(e)) {...} @@ expression x, y, z; @@ - x = of_get_mac_address(y, z); + of_get_mac_address(y, z); ... when != x </spml> All drivers, except drivers/net/ethernet/aeroflex/greth.c, were compile-time tested. net: systemport: use standard netdevice notifier to detect DSA presence The SYSTEMPORT driver maps each port of the embedded Broadcom DSA switch port to a certain queue of the master Ethernet controller. For that it currently uses a dedicated notifier infrastructure which was added in commit 60724d4bae14 ("net: dsa: Add support for DSA specific notifiers"). However, since commit 2f1e8ea726e9 ("net: dsa: link interfaces with the DSA master to get rid of lockdep warnings"), DSA is actually an upper of the Broadcom SYSTEMPORT as far as the netdevice adjacency lists are concerned. So naturally, the plain NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER net device notifiers are emitted. It looks like there is enough API exposed by DSA to the outside world already to make the call_dsa_notifiers API redundant. So let's convert its only user to plain netdev notifiers. net: systemport: Protect stop from timeout A timing hazard exists when the network interface is stopped that allows a watchdog timeout to be processed by a separate core in parallel. This creates the potential for the timeout handler to wake the queues while the driver is shutting down, or access registers after their clocks have been removed. The more common case is that the watchdog timeout will produce a warning message which doesn't lead to a crash. The chances of this are greatly increased by the fact that bcm_sysport_netif_stop stops the transmit queues which can easily precipitate a watchdog time- out because of stale trans_start data in the queues. This commit corrects the behavior by ensuring that the watchdog timeout is disabled before enterring bcm_sysport_netif_stop. There are currently only two users of the bcm_sysport_netif_stop function: close and suspend. The close case already handles the issue by exiting the RUNNING state before invoking the driver close service. The suspend case now performs the netif_device_detach to exit the PRESENT state before the call to bcm_sysport_netif_stop rather than after it. These behaviors prevent any future scheduling of the driver timeout service during the window. The netif_tx_stop_all_queues function in bcm_sysport_netif_stop is replaced with netif_tx_disable to ensure synchronization with any transmit or timeout threads that may already be executing on other cores. For symmetry, the netif_device_attach call upon resume is moved to after the call to bcm_sysport_netif_start. Since it wakes the transmit queues it is not necessary to invoke netif_tx_start_all_queues from bcm_sysport_netif_start so it is moved into the driver open service. net: systemport: Fix wake-up interrupt race during resume The AON_PM_L2 is normally used to trigger and identify the source of a wake-up event. Since the RX_SYS clock is no longer turned off, we also have an interrupt being sent to the SYSTEMPORT INTRL_2_0 controller, and that interrupt remains active up until the magic packet detector is disabled which happens much later during the driver resumption. The race happens if we have a CPU that is entering the SYSTEMPORT INTRL2_0 handler during resume, and another CPU has managed to clear the wake-up interrupt during bcm_sysport_resume_from_wol(). In that case, we have the first CPU stuck in the interrupt handler with an interrupt cause that has been cleared under its feet, and so we keep returning IRQ_NONE and we never make any progress. This was not a problem before because we would always turn off the RX_SYS clock during WoL, so the SYSTEMPORT INTRL2_0 would also be turned off as well, thus not latching the interrupt. The fix is to make sure we do not enable either the MPD or BRCM_TAG_MATCH interrupts since those are redundant with what the AON_PM_L2 interrupt controller already processes and they would cause such a race to occur. net: systemport: Fix coalescing settings handling There were a number of issues with setting the RX coalescing parameters: - we would not be preserving values that would have been configured across close/open calls, instead we would always reset to no timeout and 1 interrupt per packet, this would also prevent DIM from setting its default usec/pkts values - when adaptive RX would be turned on, we woud not be fetching the default parameters, we would stay with no timeout/1 packet per interrupt until the estimator kicks in and changes that - finally disabling adaptive RX coalescing while providing parameters would not be honored, and we would stay with whatever DIM had previously determined instead of the user requested parameters Fixes: b6e0e875421e ("net: systemport: Implement adaptive interrupt coalescing") Signed-off-by: Florian Fainelli <f.fainelli@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Tal Gilboa <talgi@mellanox.com> Signed-off-by: David S. net: systemport: Rewrite __bcm_sysport_tx_reclaim() There is no need for complex checking between the last consumed index and current consumed index, a simple subtraction will do. This also eliminates the possibility of a permanent transmit queue stall under the following conditions: - one CPU bursts ring->size worth of traffic (up to 256 buffers), to the point where we run out of free descriptors, so we stop the transmit queue at the end of bcm_sysport_xmit() - because of our locking, we have the transmit process disable interrupts which means we can be blocking the TX reclamation process - when TX reclamation finally runs, we will be computing the difference between ring->c_index (last consumed index by SW) and what the HW reports through its register - this register is masked with (ring->size - 1) = 0xff, which will lead to stripping the upper bits of the index (register is 16-bits wide) - we will be computing last_tx_cn as 0, which means there is no work to be done, and we never wake-up the transmit queue, leaving it permanently disabled A practical example is e.g: ring->c_index aka last_c_index = 12, we pushed 256 entries, HW consumer index = 268, we mask it with 0xff = 12, so last_tx_cn == 0, nothing happens. net: systemport: Establish lower/upper queue mapping Establish a queue mapping between the DSA slave network device queues created that correspond to switch port queues, and the transmit queue that SYSTEMPORT manages. We need to configure the SYSTEMPORT transmit queue with the switch port number and switch port queue number in order for the switch and SYSTEMPORT hardware to utilize the out of band congestion notification. This hardware mechanism works by looking at the switch port egress queue and determines whether there is enough buffers for this queue, with that class of service for a successful transmission and if not, backpressures the SYSTEMPORT queue that is being used. For this to work, we implement a notifier which looks at the DSA_PORT_REGISTER event. When DSA network devices are registered, the framework calls the DSA notifiers when that happens, extracts the number of queues for these devices and their associated port number, remembers that in the driver private structure and linearly maps those queues to TX rings/queues that we manage. This scheme works because DSA slave network deviecs always transmit through SYSTEMPORT so when DSA slave network devices are destroyed/brought down, the corresponding SYSTEMPORT queues are no longer used. Also, by design of the DSA framework, the master network device (SYSTEMPORT) is registered first. For faster lookups we use an array of up to DSA_MAX_PORTS * number of queues per port, and then map pointers to bcm_sysport_tx_ring such that our ndo_select_queue() implementation can just index into that array to locate the corresponding ring index. net: systemport: Fix 64-bit statistics dependency There are several problems with commit 10377ba7673d ("net: systemport: Support 64bit statistics", first one got fixed in 7095c973453e ("net: systemport: Fix 64-bit stats deadlock"). The second problem is that this specific code updates the stats64.tx_{packets,bytes} from ndo_get_stats64() and that is what we are returning to ethtool -S. If we are not running a tool that involves calling ndo_get_stats64(), then we won't get updated ethtool stats. The solution to this is to update the stats from both call sites, factoring that into a specific function, While at it, don't just check the sizeof() but also the type of the statistics in order to use the 64-bit stats seqlock. net: systemport: Pad packet before inserting TSB Inserting the TSB means adding an extra 8 bytes in front the of packet that is going to be used as metadata information by the TDMA engine, but stripped off, so it does not really help with the packet padding. For some odd packet sizes that fall below the 60 bytes payload (e.g: ARP) we can end-up padding them after the TSB insertion, thus making them 64 bytes, but with the TDMA stripping off the first 8 bytes, they could still be smaller than 64 bytes which is required to ingress the switch. Fix this by swapping the padding and TSB insertion, guaranteeing that the packets have the right sizes. net: systemport: rewrite bcm_sysport_rx_refill Currently, bcm_sysport_desc_rx() calls bcm_sysport_rx_refill() at the end of Rx packet processing loop, after the current Rx packet has already been passed to napi_gro_receive(). However, bcm_sysport_rx_refill() might fail to allocate a new Rx skb, thus leaving a hole on the Rx queue where no valid Rx buffer exists. To eliminate this situation: 1. Rewrite bcm_sysport_rx_refill() to retain the current Rx skb on the Rx queue if a new replacement Rx skb can't be allocated and DMA-mapped. In this case, the data on the current Rx skb is effectively dropped. 2. Modify bcm_sysport_desc_rx() to call bcm_sysport_rx_refill() at the top of Rx packet processing loop, so that the new replacement Rx skb is already in place before the current Rx skb is processed. net: systemport: reset UniMAC coming out of a suspend cycle bcm_sysport_resume() was missing an UniMAC reset which can lead to various receive FIFO corruptions coming out of a suspend cycle. If the RX FIFO is stuck, it will deliver corrupted/duplicate packets towards the host CPU interface. This could be reproduced on crowded network and when Wake-on-LAN is enabled for this particular interface because the switch still forwards packets towards the host CPU interface (SYSTEMPORT), and we had to leave the UniMAC RX enable bit on to allow matching MagicPackets. Once we re-enter the resume function, there is a small window during which the UniMAC receive is still enabled, and we start queueing packets, but the RDMA and RBUF engines are not ready, which leads to having packets stuck in the UniMAC RX FIFO, ultimately delivered towards the host CPU as corrupted. net: systemport: update UMAC_CMD only when link is detected When we bring the interface down, phy_stop() will schedule the PHY state machine to call our link adjustment callback. net: systemport: rename rx_csum_en to rx_chk_en This boolean tells us whether we are using the RXCHK hardware block, so use a variable name that reflects that. net: systemport: add suspend and resume support Implement the hardware recommended suspend/resume procedure for SYSTEMPORT. We leverage the previous factoring work such that we can logically break all suspend/resume operations into disctint RX and TX code paths. When the system enters S3, we will loose all register contents, so make sure that we correctly re-program all the hardware and software views of the RX & TX rings as well. net: systemport: fix TX NAPI work done return value Although we do not limit the number of packets the TX completion function bcm_sysport_tx_reclaim() is allowed to reclaim, we were still using its return value as-is. This means that we could hit the WARN() in net/core/dev.c where work_done >= budget. Make sure we do exit the NAPI context when the TX ring is empty, and pretend there was no work to do. net: systemport: fix UniMAC reset logic The UniMAC CMD_SW_RESET bit is not a self-clearing bit, so we need to assert it, wait a bit and clear it manually. As a result, umac_reset() is updated not to return any value. The previous version of the code simply wrote 0 to the CMD register, which would make the busy-waiting loop exit immediately, having zero effect. By writing 0 to the CMD register, we were clearing all bits in the CMD register, and not using the hardware reset default values which are set on purpose. net: systemport: do not clear IFF_MULTICAST flag The SYSTEMPORT Ethernet MAC supports multicast just fine, it just lacks any sort of Unicast/Broadcast/Multicasting filtering at the Ethernet MAC level since that is handled by the front end Ethernet switch, but that is properly handled by bcm_sysport_set_rx_mode(). Some user-space applications might be relying on the presence of this flag to prevent using multicast sockets, this also prevents that interface from joining the IPv6 all-router mcast group. net: systemport: fix dma_unmap_single() len dma_unmap_single() was called with dma_unmap_len(cb, dma_len), unfortunately we failed to assign this length field in bcm_sysport_rx_refill() or bcm_sysport_alloc_rx_bufs() using dma_unmap_len_set(). This causes packet contents corruption because are we not invoking the cache invalidation routines with the proper length. net: systemport: pad packets to a minimum of 68 bytes Packets need to be at least 64 bytes to enter the switch port logic, including the FCS, otherwise they will be discarded as RUNT packets.
