media: v4l2-subdev: Add which field to struct v4l2_subdev_frame_interval Due to a historical mishap, the v4l2_subdev_frame_interval structure is the only part of the V4L2 subdev userspace API that doesn't contain a 'which' field. This prevents trying frame intervals using the subdev 'TRY' state mechanism. Adding a 'which' field is simple as the structure has 8 reserved fields. This would however break userspace as the field is currently set to 0, corresponding to V4L2_SUBDEV_FORMAT_TRY, while the corresponding ioctls currently operate on the 'ACTIVE' state. We thus need to add a new subdev client cap, V4L2_SUBDEV_CLIENT_CAP_INTERVAL_USES_WHICH, to indicate that userspace is aware of this new field. All drivers that implement the subdev .get_frame_interval() and .set_frame_interval() operations are updated to return -EINVAL when operating on the TRY state, preserving the current behaviour. While at it, fix a bad copy&paste in the documentation of the struct v4l2_subdev_frame_interval_enum 'which' field. media: v4l2-subdev: Turn .[gs]_frame_interval into pad operations The subdev .[gs]_frame_interval are video operations, but they operate on pads (and even on streams). Not only is this confusing, it causes practical issues for drivers as the operations don't receive a subdev state pointer, requiring manual state handling. To improve the situation, turn the operations into pad operations, and extend them to receive a state pointer like other pad operations. While at it, rename the operations to .[gs]et_frame_interval at the same time to match the naming scheme of other pad operations. This isn't strictly necessary, but given that all drivers using those operations need to be modified, handling the rename separately would generate more churn for very little gain (if at all). media: v4l2-subdev: Rename .init_cfg() operation to .init_state() The subdev .init_cfg() operation is affected by two issues: - It has long been extended to initialize a whole v4l2_subdev_state instead of just a v4l2_subdev_pad_config, but its name has stuck around. - Despite operating on a whole subdev state and not being directly exposed to the subdev users (either in-kernel or through the userspace API), .init_cfg() is categorized as a subdev pad operation. This participates in making the subdev API confusing for new developers. Fix it by renaming the operation to .init_state(), and make it a subdev internal operation. media: v4l2-mediabus: Use structures to describe bus configuration The media bus configuration is specified through a set of flags, some of which being mutually exclusive. This doesn't scale to express more complex configurations. Improve the API by replacing the single flags field in v4l2_mbus_config by a union of v4l2_mbus_config_* structures. The flags themselves are still used in those structures, so they are kept here. Drivers are however updated to use structure fields instead of flags when already possible. media: v4l2-subdev: add subdev-wide state struct We have 'struct v4l2_subdev_pad_config' which contains configuration for a single pad used for the TRY functionality, and an array of those structs is passed to various v4l2_subdev_pad_ops. I was working on subdev internal routing between pads, and realized that there's no way to add TRY functionality for routes, which is not pad specific configuration. Adding a separate struct for try-route config wouldn't work either, as e.g. set-fmt needs to know the try-route configuration to propagate the settings. This patch adds a new struct, 'struct v4l2_subdev_state' (which at the moment only contains the v4l2_subdev_pad_config array) and the new struct is used in most of the places where v4l2_subdev_pad_config was used. All v4l2_subdev_pad_ops functions taking v4l2_subdev_pad_config are changed to instead take v4l2_subdev_state. The changes to drivers/media/v4l2-core/v4l2-subdev.c and include/media/v4l2-subdev.h were written by hand, and all the driver changes were done with the semantic patch below. The spatch needs to be applied to a select list of directories. I used the following shell commands to apply the spatch: dirs="drivers/media/i2c drivers/media/platform drivers/media/usb drivers/media/test-drivers/vimc drivers/media/pci drivers/staging/media" for dir in $dirs; do spatch -j8 --dir --include-headers --no-show-diff --in-place --sp-file v4l2-subdev-state.cocci $dir; done Note that Coccinelle chokes on a few drivers (gcc extensions?). With minor changes we can make Coccinelle run fine, and these changes can be reverted after spatch. [media] adv7180: rcar-vin: change mbus format to UYVY The media bus format reported by the adv7180 is wrong. Steve Longerbeam posted a patch which changed the format to UYVY8_2X8 with the commit message: Change the media bus format from YUYV8_2X8 to UYVY8_2X8. Colors now look correct when capturing with the i.mx6 backend. The other option is to set the SWPC bit in register 0x27 to swap the Cr and Cb output samples. The rcar-vin driver was developed and tested with the adv7180 and therefor suffers from the same issue, looking for the wrong media bus format. The two errors corrected each other. This patch takes Steve's patch and merge it with a fix for rcar-vin driver. The rcar-vin driver is used used in together with the adv7180 och Koelsch and this ensures it will not break while fixing the adv7180 issue. I checked wit Steve and he was fine with me merging the patches. [media] adv7180: fix broken standards handling The adv7180 attempts to autodetect the standard. Unfortunately this is seriously broken. This patch removes the autodetect completely. Only the querystd op will detect the standard. Since the design of the adv7180 requires that you switch to a special autodetect mode you cannot call querystd when you are streaming. So the s_stream op has been added so we know whether we are streaming or not, and if we are, then querystd returns EBUSY. After testing this with a signal generator is became obvious that a sleep is needed between changing the standard to autodetect and reading the status. So the autodetect can never have worked well. The s_std call now just sets the new standard without any querying. If the driver supports the interrupt, then when it detects a standard change it will signal that by sending the V4L2_EVENT_SOURCE_CHANGE event. With these changes this driver now behaves like all other video receivers. [media] media framework: rename pads init function to media_entity_pads_init() With the MC next gen rework, what's left for media_entity_init() is to just initialize the PADs. However, certain devices, like a FLASH led/light doesn't have any input or output PAD. So, there's no reason why calling media_entity_init() would be mandatory. Also, despite its name, what this function actually does is to initialize the PADs data. So, rename it to media_entity_pads_init() in order to reflect that. The media entity actual init happens during entity register, at media_device_register_entity(). We should move init of num_links and num_backlinks to it. [media] media: get rid of unused "extra_links" param on media_entity_init() Currently, media_entity_init() creates an array with the links, allocated at init time. It provides a parameter (extra_links) that would allocate more links than the current needs, but this is not used by any driver. As we want to be able to do dynamic link allocation/removal, we'll need to change the implementation of the links. So, before doing that, let's first remove that extra unused parameter, in order to cleanup the interface first. [media] v4l2-subdev: replace v4l2_subdev_fh by v4l2_subdev_pad_config If a subdevice pad op is called from a bridge driver, then there is no v4l2_subdev_fh struct that can be passed to the subdevice. This made it hard to use such subdevs from a bridge driver. This patch replaces the v4l2_subdev_fh pointer by a v4l2_subdev_pad_config pointer in the pad ops. This allows bridge drivers to use the various try_ pad ops by creating a v4l2_subdev_pad_config struct and passing it along to the pad op. The v4l2_subdev_get_try_* macros had to be changed because of this, so I also took the opportunity to use the full name of the v4l2_subdev_get_try_* functions in the __V4L2_SUBDEV_MK_GET_TRY macro arguments: if you now do 'git grep v4l2_subdev_get_try_format' you will actually find the header where it is defined. One remark regarding the drivers/staging/media/davinci_vpfe patches: the *_init_formats() functions assumed that fh could be NULL. However, that's not true for this driver, it's always set. This is almost certainly a copy and paste from the omap3isp driver. I've updated the code to reflect the fact that fh is never NULL. [media] adv7180: Do implicit register paging The ad7180 has multiple register pages which can be switched between by writing to a register. Currently the driver manually switches between pages whenever a register outside of the default register map is accessed and switches back after it has been accessed. This is a bit tedious and also potential source for bugs. This patch adds two helper functions that take care of switching between pages and reading/writing the register. The register numbers for registers are updated to encode both the page (in the upper 8-bits) and the register (in the lower 8-bits) numbers. Having multiple pages means that a register access is not a single atomic i2c_smbus_write_byte_data() or i2c_smbus_read_byte_data() call and we need to make sure that concurrent register access does not race against each other. Drivers: media: remove __dev* attributes. CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option. As a result, the __dev* markings need to be removed. This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata, __devinitconst, and __devexit from these drivers. Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand.
