powerpc/machdep: Define 'compatibles' property in ppc_md and use it Most probe functions that do not use the 'compatible' string do nothing else than checking whether the machine is compatible with one of the strings in a NULL terminated table of strings. Define that table of strings in ppc_md structure and check it directly from probe_machine() instead of using ppc_md.probe() for that. Keep checking in ppc_md.probe() only for more complex probing. All .compatible could be replaced with a single element NULL terminated list but that's not worth the churn. Can be do incrementaly in follow-up patches. powerpc: Cleanup idle for e500 e500 idle setup is a bit messy. e500_idle() is used for PPC32 while book3e_idle() is used for PPC64. As they are mutually exclusive, call them all e500_idle(). Use CONFIG_MPC_85xx instead of PPC32 + E500 in Makefile and rename idle_e500.c to idle_85xx.c . Rename idle_book3e.c to idle_64e.c and remove #ifdef PPC64 in as it's only built on PPC64. random: remove CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM When RDRAND was introduced, there was much discussion on whether it should be trusted and how the kernel should handle that. Initially, two mechanisms cropped up, CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM, a compile time switch, and "nordrand", a boot-time switch. Later the thinking evolved. With a properly designed RNG, using RDRAND values alone won't harm anything, even if the outputs are malicious. Rather, the issue is whether those values are being *trusted* to be good or not. And so a new set of options were introduced as the real ones that people use -- CONFIG_RANDOM_TRUST_CPU and "random.trust_cpu". With these options, RDRAND is used, but it's not always credited. So in the worst case, it does nothing, and in the best case, maybe it helps. Along the way, CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM's meaning got sort of pulled into the center and became something certain platforms force-select. The old options don't really help with much, and it's a bit odd to have special handling for these instructions when the kernel can deal fine with the existence or untrusted existence or broken existence or non-existence of that CPU capability. Simplify the situation by removing CONFIG_ARCH_RANDOM and using the ordinary asm-generic fallback pattern instead, keeping the two options that are actually used. For now it leaves "nordrand" for now, as the removal of that will take a different route. powerpc/mce: Avoid using irq_work_queue() in realmode In realmode mce handler we use irq_work_queue() to defer the processing of mce events, irq_work_queue() can only be called when translation is enabled because it touches memory outside RMA, hence we enable translation before calling irq_work_queue and disable on return, though it is not safe to do in realmode. To avoid this, program the decrementer and call the event processing functions from timer handler. powerpc/pci: Add ppc_md.discover_phbs() On many powerpc platforms the discovery and initalisation of pci_controllers (PHBs) happens inside of setup_arch(). This is very early in boot (pre-initcalls) and means that we're initialising the PHB long before many basic kernel services (slab allocator, debugfs, a real ioremap) are available. On PowerNV this causes an additional problem since we map the PHB registers with ioremap(). As of commit d538aadc2718 ("powerpc/ioremap: warn on early use of ioremap()") a warning is printed because we're using the "incorrect" API to setup and MMIO mapping in searly boot. The kernel does provide early_ioremap(), but that is not intended to create long-lived MMIO mappings and a seperate warning is printed by generic code if early_ioremap() mappings are "leaked." This is all fixable with dumb hacks like using early_ioremap() to setup the initial mapping then replacing it with a real ioremap later on in boot, but it does raise the question: Why the hell are we setting up the PHB's this early in boot? The old and wise claim it's due to "hysterical rasins." Aside from amused grapes there doesn't appear to be any real reason to maintain the current behaviour. Already most of the newer embedded platforms perform PHB discovery in an arch_initcall and between the end of setup_arch() and the start of initcalls none of the generic kernel code does anything PCI related. On powerpc scanning PHBs occurs in a subsys_initcall so it should be possible to move the PHB discovery to a core, postcore or arch initcall. This patch adds the ppc_md.discover_phbs hook and a core_initcall stub that calls it. The core_initcalls are the earliest to be called so this will any possibly issues with dependency between initcalls. This isn't just an academic issue either since on pseries and PowerNV EEH init occurs in an arch_initcall and depends on the pci_controllers being available, similarly the creation of pci_dns occurs at core_initcall_sync (i.e. between core and postcore initcalls). These problems need to be addressed seperately. powerpc/pseries: Flush SLB contents on SLB MCE errors. On pseries, as of today system crashes if we get a machine check exceptions due to SLB errors. These are soft errors and can be fixed by flushing the SLBs so the kernel can continue to function instead of system crash. We do this in real mode before turning on MMU. Revert "powerpc: Do not call ppc_md.panic in fadump panic notifier" This reverts commit a3b2cb30f252b21a6f962e0dd107c8b897ca65e4. That commit tried to fix problems with panic on powerpc in certain circumstances, where some output from the generic panic code was being dropped. Unfortunately, it breaks things worse in other circumstances. In particular when running a PAPR guest, it will now attempt to reboot instead of informing the hypervisor (KVM or PowerVM) that the guest has crashed. The crash notification is important to some virtualization management layers. Revert it for now until we can come up with a better solution. powerpc: Change places using CONFIG_KEXEC to use CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE instead. Commit 2965faa5e03d ("kexec: split kexec_load syscall from kexec core code") introduced CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE so that CONFIG_KEXEC means whether the kexec_load system call should be compiled-in and CONFIG_KEXEC_FILE means whether the kexec_file_load system call should be compiled-in. These options can be set independently from each other. Since until now powerpc only supported kexec_load, CONFIG_KEXEC and CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE were synonyms. That is not the case anymore, so we need to make a distinction. Almost all places where CONFIG_KEXEC was being used should be using CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE instead, since kexec_file_load also needs that code compiled in. powerpc: Remove all usages of NO_IRQ NO_IRQ has been == 0 on powerpc for just over ten years (since commit 0ebfff1491ef ("[POWERPC] Add new interrupt mapping core and change platforms to use it")). It's also 0 on most other arches. Although it's fairly harmless, every now and then it causes confusion when a driver is built on powerpc and another arch which doesn't define NO_IRQ. There's at least 6 definitions of NO_IRQ in drivers/, at least some of which are to work around that problem. So we'd like to remove it. This is fairly trivial in the arch code, we just convert: if (irq == NO_IRQ) to if (!irq) if (irq != NO_IRQ) to if (irq) irq = NO_IRQ; to irq = 0; return NO_IRQ; to return 0; And a few other odd cases as well. At least for now we keep the #define NO_IRQ, because there is driver code that uses NO_IRQ and the fixes to remove those will go via other trees. That no longer works because probe_machine() requires that ppc_md be empty before it's called, and we now do probe_machine() much later. So make register_process_table a global for now. It will probably move into a mmu_radix_ops struct at some point in the future. This was broken by me when applying commit 7025776ed1eb "powerpc/mm: Move hash table ops to a separate structure" due to conflicts with other patches. Since we have essentially disconnected the machine type from the hash backend ops, finish the job by moving them to a different structure. The only callback that didn't quite fix is update_partition_table since this is not specific to hash, so I moved it to a standalone variable for now. We can revisit later if needed. powerpc/mm: Handle removing maybe-present bolted HPTEs At the moment the hpte_removebolted callback in ppc_md returns void and will BUG_ON() if the hpte it's asked to remove doesn't exist in the first place. This is awkward for the case of cleaning up a mapping which was partially made before failing. So, we add a return value to hpte_removebolted, and have it return ENOENT in the case that the HPTE to remove didn't exist in the first place. In the (sole) caller, we propagate errors in hpte_removebolted to its caller to handle. However, we handle ENOENT specially, continuing to complete the unmapping over the specified range before returning the error to the caller. This means that htab_remove_mapping() will work sanely on a partially present mapping, removing any HPTEs which are present, while also returning ENOENT to its caller in case it's important there. There are two callers of htab_remove_mapping(): - In remove_section_mapping() we already WARN_ON() any error return, which is reasonable - in this case the mapping should be fully present - In vmemmap_remove_mapping() we BUG_ON() any error. We change that to just a WARN_ON() in the case of ENOENT, since failing to remove a mapping that wasn't there in the first place probably shouldn't be fatal. powerpc: Fix checkstop in native_hpte_clear() with lockdep native_hpte_clear() is called in real mode from two places: - Early in boot during htab initialisation if firmware assisted dump is active. - Late in the kexec path. In both contexts there is no need to disable interrupts are they are already disabled. Furthermore, locking around the tlbie() is only required for pre POWER5 hardware. On POWER5 or newer hardware concurrent tlbie()s work as expected and on pre POWER5 hardware concurrent tlbie()s could result in deadlock. This code would only be executed at crashdump time, during which all bets are off, concurrent tlbie()s are unlikely and taking locks is unsafe therefore the best course of action is to simply do nothing. powerpc: Use hardware RNG for arch_get_random_seed_* not arch_get_random_* The hardware RNG on POWER8 and POWER7+ can be relatively slow, since it can only supply one 64-bit value per microsecond. Currently we read it in arch_get_random_long(), but that slows down reading from /dev/urandom since the code in random.c calls arch_get_random_long() for every longword read from /dev/urandom. Since the hardware RNG supplies high-quality entropy on every read, it matches the semantics of arch_get_random_seed_long() better than those of arch_get_random_long(). Therefore this commit makes the code use the POWER8/7+ hardware RNG only for arch_get_random_seed_{long,int} and not for arch_get_random_{long,int}. This won't affect any other PowerPC-based platforms because none of them currently support a hardware RNG. To make it clear that the ppc_md function pointer is used for arch_get_random_seed_*, we rename it from get_random_long to get_random_seed. powerpc/iommu: Move tce_xxx callbacks from ppc_md to iommu_table This adds a iommu_table_ops struct and puts pointer to it into the iommu_table struct. This moves tce_build/tce_free/tce_get/tce_flush callbacks from ppc_md to the new struct where they really belong to. This adds the requirement for @it_ops to be initialized before calling iommu_init_table() to make sure that we do not leave any IOMMU table with iommu_table_ops uninitialized. This is not a parameter of iommu_init_table() though as there will be cases when iommu_init_table() will not be called on TCE tables, for example - VFIO. This does s/tce_build/set/, s/tce_free/clear/ and removes "tce_" redundant prefixes. This removes tce_xxx_rm handlers from ppc_md but does not add them to iommu_table_ops as this will be done later if we decide to support TCE hypercalls in real mode. This removes _vm callbacks as only virtual mode is supported by now so this also removes @rm parameter. For pSeries, this always uses tce_buildmulti_pSeriesLP/ tce_buildmulti_pSeriesLP. This changes multi callback to fall back to tce_build_pSeriesLP/tce_free_pSeriesLP if FW_FEATURE_MULTITCE is not present. The reason for this is we still have to support "multitce=off" boot parameter in disable_multitce() and we do not want to walk through all IOMMU tables in the system and replace "multi" callbacks with single ones. For powernv, this defines _ops per PHB type which are P5IOC2/IODA1/IODA2. This makes the callbacks for them public. Later patches will extend callbacks for IODA1/2. No change in behaviour is expected. powerpc/powernv: Reserve additional space for IOV BAR according to the number of total_pe On PHB3, PF IOV BAR will be covered by M64 BAR to have better PE isolation. M64 BAR is a type of hardware resource in PHB3, which could map a range of MMIO to PE numbers on powernv platform. And this range is divided equally by the number of total_pe with each divided range mapping to a PE number. Also, the M64 BAR must map a MMIO range with power-of-two size. The total_pe number is usually different from total_VFs, which can lead to a conflict between MMIO space and the PE number. For example, if total_VFs is 128 and total_pe is 256, the second half of M64 BAR will be part of other PCI device, which may already belong to other PEs. This patch prevents the conflict by reserving additional space for the PF IOV BAR, which is total_pe number of VF's BAR size. powerpc: Convert power off logic to pm_power_off The generic Linux framework to power off the machine is a function pointer called pm_power_off. The trick about this pointer is that device drivers can potentially implement it rather than board files. Today on powerpc we set pm_power_off to invoke our generic full machine power off logic which then calls ppc_md.power_off to invoke machine specific power off. However, when we want to add a power off GPIO via the "gpio-poweroff" driver, this card house falls apart. That driver only registers itself if pm_power_off is NULL to ensure it doesn't override board specific logic. However, since we always set pm_power_off to the generic power off logic (which will just not power off the machine if no ppc_md.power_off call is implemented), we can't implement power off via the generic GPIO power off driver. To fix this up, let's get rid of the ppc_md.power_off logic and just always use pm_power_off as was intended. Then individual drivers such as the GPIO power off driver can implement power off logic via that function pointer. With this patch set applied and a few patches on top of QEMU that implement a power off GPIO on the virt e500 machine, I can successfully turn off my virtual machine after halt. powerpc: powernv: Framework to show the correct clock in /proc/cpuinfo Currently, the code in setup-common.c for powerpc assumes that all clock rates are same in a smp system. This value is cached in the variable named ppc_proc_freq and is the value that is reported in /proc/cpuinfo. However on the PowerNV platform, the clock rate is same only across the threads of the same core. Hence the value that is reported in /proc/cpuinfo is incorrect on PowerNV platforms. We need a better way to query and report the correct value of the processor clock in /proc/cpuinfo. The patch achieves this by creating a machdep_call named get_proc_freq() which is expected to returns the frequency in Hz. The code in show_cpuinfo() can invoke this method to display the correct clock rate on platforms that have implemented this method. powerpc/pci: Mask linkDown on resetting PCI bus The problem was initially reported by Wendy who tried pass through IPR adapter, which was connected to PHB root port directly, to KVM based guest. When doing that, pci_reset_bridge_secondary_bus() was called by VFIO driver and linkDown was detected by the root port. That caused all PEs to be frozen. The patch fixes the issue by routing the reset for the secondary bus of root port to underly firmware. For that, one more weak function pci_reset_secondary_bus() is introduced so that the individual platforms can override that and do specific reset for bridge's secondary bus. powerpc/pseries: Use remove_memory() to remove memory The memory remove code for powerpc/pseries should call remove_memory() so that we are holding the hotplug_memory lock during memory remove operations. This patch updates the memory node remove handler to call remove_memory() and adds a ppc_md.remove_memory() entry to handle pseries specific work that is called from arch_remove_memory(). During memory remove in pseries_remove_memblock() we have to stay with removing memory one section at a time. This is needed because of how memory resources are handled. During memory add for pseries (via the probe file in sysfs) we add memory one section at a time which gives us a memory resource for each section. Future patches will aim to address this so will not have to remove memory one section at a time. powerpc/mm: handle hugepage size correctly when invalidating hpte entries If a hash bucket gets full, we "evict" a more/less random entry from it. When we do that we don't invalidate the TLB (hpte_remove) because we assume the old translation is still technically "valid". This implies that when we are invalidating or updating pte, even if HPTE entry is not valid we should do a tlb invalidate. With hugepages, we need to pass the correct actual page size value for tlb invalidation. This change update the patch 0608d692463598c1d6e826d9dd7283381b4f246c "powerpc/mm: Always invalidate tlb on hpte invalidate and update" to handle transparent hugepages correctly. powerpc: Decode the pte-lp-encoding bits correctly. We look at both the segment base page size and actual page size and store the pte-lp-encodings in an array per base page size. We also update all relevant functions to take actual page size argument so that we can use the correct PTE LP encoding in HPTE. This should also get the basic Multiple Page Size per Segment (MPSS) support. This is needed to enable THP on ppc64. Both the pseries and PS3 hypervisors do some checks on the DABRX values that are passed in the hcall. This patch stops bogus values from being passed to hypervisor. Also, in the case where we are clearing the breakpoint, where DABR and DABRX are zero, we modify the DABRX value to make it valid so that the hcall won't fail. powerpc: Override dma_get_required_mask by platform hook and ops The hook dma_get_required_mask is supposed to return the mask required by the platform to operate efficently. The generic version of dma_get_required_mask in driver/base/platform.c returns a mask based only on max_pfn. However, this is likely too big for iommu systems and could be too small for platforms that require a dma offset or have a secondary window at a high offset. Override the default, provide a hook in ppc_md used by pseries lpar and cell, and provide the default answer based on memblock_end_of_DRAM(), with hooks for get_dma_offset, and provide an implementation for iommu that looks at the defined table size. Coverting from the end address to the required bit mask is based on the generic implementation. The need for this was discovered when the qla2xxx driver switched to 64 bit dma then reverted to 32 bit when dma_get_required_mask said 32 bits was sufficient. powerpc/pmac/smp: Properly NAP offlined CPU on G5 The current code soft-disables, and then goes to NAP mode which turns interrupts on. That means that if an interrupt occurs, we will hit the masked interrupt code path which isn't what we want, as it will return with EE off, which will either get us out of NAP mode, or fail to enter it (according to spec). Instead, let's just rely on the fact that it is safe to take decrementer interrupts on an offline CPU and leave interrupts enabled. powerpc: Clean up obsolete code relating to decrementer and timebase Since the decrementer and timekeeping code was moved over to using the generic clockevents and timekeeping infrastructure, several variables and functions have been obsolete and effectively unused. This deletes them. In particular, wakeup_decrementer() is no longer needed since the generic code reprograms the decrementer as part of the process of resuming the timekeeping code, which happens during sysdev resume. Thus the wakeup_decrementer calls in the suspend_enter methods for 52xx platforms have been removed. The call in the powermac cpu frequency change code has been replaced by set_dec(1), which will cause a timer interrupt as soon as interrupts are enabled, and the generic code will then reprogram the decrementer with the correct value. This also simplifies the generic_suspend_en/disable_irqs functions and makes them static since they are not referenced outside time.c. The preempt_enable/disable calls are removed because the generic code has disabled all but the boot cpu at the point where these functions are called, so we can't be moved to another cpu. powerpc/book3e: Add generic 64-bit idle powersave support We use a similar technique to ppc32: We set a thread local flag to indicate that we are about to enter or have entered the stop state, and have fixup code in the async interrupt entry code that reacts to this flag to make us return to a different location (sets NIP to LINK in our case). This is a firmware assisted hibernation, since the firmware handles writing the memory out to disk, along with other partition information, so we just mimic suspend to ram. sysfs/cpu: Add probe/release files Version 3 of this patch is updated with documentation added to Documentation/ABI. There are no changes to any of the C code from v2 of the patch. In order to support kernel DLPAR of CPU resources we need to provide an interface to add (probe) and remove (release) the resource from the system. This patch Creates new generic probe and release sysfs files to facilitate cpu probe/release. The probe/release interface provides for allowing each arch to supply their own routines for implementing the backend of adding and removing cpus to/from the system. This also creates the powerpc specific stubs to handle the arch callouts from writes to the sysfs files. The creation and use of these files is regulated by the CONFIG_ARCH_CPU_PROBE_RELEASE option so that only architectures that need the capability will have the files created. powerpc: Merge 32 and 64-bit dma code We essentially adopt the 64-bit dma code, with some changes to support 32-bit systems, including HIGHMEM. dma functions on 32-bit are now invoked via accessor functions which call the correct op for a device based on archdata dma_ops. If there is no archdata dma_ops, this defaults to dma_direct_ops. In addition, the dma_map/unmap_page functions are added to dma_ops because we can't just fall back on map/unmap_single when HIGHMEM is enabled. In the case of dma_direct_*, we stop using map/unmap_single and just use the page version - this saves a lot of ugly ifdeffing. We leave map/unmap_single in the dma_ops definition, though, because they are needed by the iommu code, which does not implement map/unmap_page. Ideally, going forward, we will completely eliminate map/unmap_single and just have map/unmap_page, if it's workable for 64-bit.
