powerpc: Use shared font data PowerPC has a 'btext' font used for the console which is almost identical to the shared font_sun8x16, so use it rather than duplicating the data. They were actually identical until about a decade ago when commit bcfbeecea11c ("drivers: console: font_: Change a glyph from "broken bar" to "vertical line"") which changed the | in the shared font to be a solid bar rather than a broken bar. That's the only difference. This was originally spotted by the PMF source code analyser, which noticed that sparc does the same thing with the same data, and they also share a bunch of functions to manipulate the data. I've previously posted a near identical patch for sparc. Tested very lightly with a boot without FS in qemu. KVM: PPC: Add helper library for Guest State Buffers The PAPR "Nestedv2" guest API introduces the concept of a Guest State Buffer for communication about L2 guests between L1 and L0 hosts. In the new API, the L0 manages the L2 on behalf of the L1. This means that if the L1 needs to change L2 state (e.g. GPRs, SPRs, partition table...), it must request the L0 perform the modification. If the nested host needs to read L2 state likewise this request must go through the L0. The Guest State Buffer is a Type-Length-Value style data format defined in the PAPR which assigns all relevant partition state a unique identity. Unlike a typical TLV format the length is redundant as the length of each identity is fixed but is included for checking correctness. A guest state buffer consists of an element count followed by a stream of elements, where elements are composed of an ID number, data length, then the data: Header: <---4 bytes---> +----------------+----- | Element Count | Elements... +----------------+----- Element: <----2 bytes---> <-2 bytes-> <-Length bytes-> +----------------+-----------+----------------+ | Guest State ID | Length | Data | +----------------+-----------+----------------+ Guest State IDs have other attributes defined in the PAPR such as whether they are per thread or per guest, or read-only. Introduce a library for using guest state buffers. This includes support for actions such as creating buffers, adding elements to buffers, reading the value of elements and parsing buffers. This will be used later by the nestedv2 guest support. powerpc: Add support for early debugging via Serial 16550 console Currently powerpc early debugging contains lot of platform specific options, but does not support standard UART / serial 16550 console. Later legacy_serial.c code supports registering UART as early debug console from device tree but it is not early during booting, but rather later after machine description code finishes. So for real early debugging via UART is current code unsuitable. Add support for new early debugging option CONFIG_PPC_EARLY_DEBUG_16550 which enable Serial 16550 console on address defined by new option CONFIG_PPC_EARLY_DEBUG_16550_PHYSADDR and by stride by option CONFIG_PPC_EARLY_DEBUG_16550_STRIDE. With this change it is possible to debug powerpc machine descriptor code. For example this early debugging code can print on serial console also "No suitable machine description found" error which is done before legacy_serial.c code. Unlike book3s/64, book3e always has translation active so the only thing needed to use KASAN is to setup an early zero shadow mapping just after setting a stack pointer and before calling early_setup(). powerpc: Book3S 64-bit outline-only KASAN support Implement a limited form of KASAN for Book3S 64-bit machines running under the Radix MMU, supporting only outline mode. - Enable the compiler instrumentation to check addresses and maintain the shadow region. (This is the guts of KASAN which we can easily reuse.) - Require kasan-vmalloc support to handle modules and anything else in vmalloc space. - KASAN needs to be able to validate all pointer accesses, but we can't instrument all kernel addresses - only linear map and vmalloc. On boot, set up a single page of read-only shadow that marks all iomap and vmemmap accesses as valid. - Document KASAN in powerpc docs. Background ---------- KASAN support on Book3S is a bit tricky to get right: - It would be good to support inline instrumentation so as to be able to catch stack issues that cannot be caught with outline mode. - Inline instrumentation requires a fixed offset. - Book3S runs code with translations off ("real mode") during boot, including a lot of generic device-tree parsing code which is used to determine MMU features. [ppc64 mm note: The kernel installs a linear mapping at effective address c000...-c008.... This is a one-to-one mapping with physical memory from 0000... onward. Because of how memory accesses work on powerpc 64-bit Book3S, a kernel pointer in the linear map accesses the same memory both with translations on (accessing as an 'effective address'), and with translations off (accessing as a 'real address'). This works in both guests and the hypervisor. For more details, see s5.7 of Book III of version 3 of the ISA, in particular the Storage Control Overview, s5.7.3, and s5.7.5 - noting that this KASAN implementation currently only supports Radix.] - Some code - most notably a lot of KVM code - also runs with translations off after boot. - Therefore any offset has to point to memory that is valid with translations on or off. One approach is just to give up on inline instrumentation. This way boot-time checks can be delayed until after the MMU is set is up, and we can just not instrument any code that runs with translations off after booting. Take this approach for now and require outline instrumentation. Previous attempts allowed inline instrumentation. However, they came with some unfortunate restrictions: only physically contiguous memory could be used and it had to be specified at compile time. Maybe we can do better in the future. powerpc/64s: avoid reloading (H)SRR registers if they are still valid When an interrupt is taken, the SRR registers are set to return to where it left off. Unless they are modified in the meantime, or the return address or MSR are modified, there is no need to reload these registers when returning from interrupt. Introduce per-CPU flags that track the validity of SRR and HSRR registers. These are cleared when returning from interrupt, when using the registers for something else (e.g., OPAL calls), when adjusting the return address or MSR of a context, and when context switching (which changes the return address and MSR). This improves the performance of interrupt returns. powerpc: Remove Xilinx PPC405/PPC440 support The latest Xilinx design tools called ISE and EDK has been released in October 2013. New tool doesn't support any PPC405/PPC440 new designs. These platforms are no longer supported and tested. PowerPC 405/440 port is orphan from 2013 by commit cdeb89943bfc ("MAINTAINERS: Fix incorrect status tag") and commit 19624236cce1 ("MAINTAINERS: Update Grant's email address and maintainership") that's why it is time to remove the support fot these platforms. powerpc/mm: Warn if W+X pages found on boot Implement code to walk all pages and warn if any are found to be both writable and executable. Depends on STRICT_KERNEL_RWX enabled, and is behind the DEBUG_WX config option. This only runs on boot and has no runtime performance implications. Very heavily influenced (and in some cases copied verbatim) from the ARM64 code written by Laura Abbott (thanks!), since our ptdump infrastructure is similar. Also since commit f467c5640c29 ("kconfig: only write '# CONFIG_FOO is not set' for visible symbols") the Kconfig behavior is the same regardless of 'default n' being present or not: ... One side effect of (and the main motivation for) this change is making the following two definitions behave exactly the same: config FOO bool config FOO bool default n With this change, neither of these will generate a '# CONFIG_FOO is not set' line (assuming FOO isn't selected/implied). Kconfig: consolidate the "Kernel hacking" menu Move the source of lib/Kconfig.debug and arch/$(ARCH)/Kconfig.debug to the top-level Kconfig. For two architectures that means moving their arch-specific symbols in that menu into a new arch Kconfig.debug file, and for a few more creating a dummy file so that we can include it unconditionally. License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. powerpc: Disable the fast-endian switch syscall by default Back in 2008 we added support for "fast little-endian switch" in the syscall path. This added a special case syscall number 0x1ebe, which is caught very early in the system call exception and switches endian with as little overhead as possible. See commit 745a14cc264b ("[POWERPC] Add fast little-endian switch system call") for full details. Although it is fast, it's also completely non standard. The "syscall number" is out of the range of normal syscalls, it can't be traced or audited, and it's a bit of a wart. To the best of our knowledge it was only used by one program, now long since discontinued. So in an effort to shake out any current users, put it behind a config option, and make it default n. Remove all disassembler_info 2. Use xmon's printf/print_address to output data and addresses respectively. 3. All bfd_* types and casts have been removed. 4. Optimizations related to opcd_indices have been removed. 5. The dialect is set based on cpu features. 6. PPC_OPCODE_CLASSIC is no longer supported in the new disassembler. 7. VLE opcode parsing and printing has been stripped. 8. Coding style conventions used for those routines has been retained and it does not match our CodingStyle. 9. The highest supported dialect is POWER9. 10. Defined ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED in ppc-dis.c. 11. Defined _(x) in ppc-dis.c. powerpc/xmon: Update ppc-dis/opc.c and ppc.h Upgrade ppc-opc.c, ppc-dis.c and ppc.h to the versions belonging to the following binutils commit: 65b650b4c7463f4508bed523c24ab0031a5ae5cd * ppc-dis.c (print_insn_powerpc): Don't skip all operands after setting skip_optional. That is the last version of those files that were licensed under GPLv2. This leaves the code in a state that does not compile, because the binutils code needs to be tweaked to work in the kernel. We don't fix that in this commit, because we want to import more binutils changes in subsequent commits. So for now we mark XMON_DISASSEMBLY as BROKEN, so it can't be built. powerpc/powernv: Remove OPAL v1 takeover In commit 27f4488872d9 "Add OPAL takeover from PowerVM" we added support for "takeover" on OPAL v1 machines. This was a mode of operation where we would boot under pHyp, and query for the presence of OPAL. If detected we would then do a special sequence to take over the machine, and the kernel would end up running in hypervisor mode. OPAL v1 was never a supported product, and was never shipped outside IBM. As far as we know no one is still using it. Newer versions of OPAL do not use the takeover mechanism. Although the query for OPAL should be harmless on machines with newer OPAL, we have seen a machine where it causes a crash in Open Firmware. The code in early_init_devtree() to copy boot_command_line into cmd_line was added in commit 817c21ad9a1f "Get kernel command line accross OPAL takeover", and AFAIK is only used by takeover, so should also be removed. On OPAL v1 we have hvc0 mapped to whatever console the system was configured for (network or hvsi serial port) via the service processor. On OPAL v2 we have hvcN mapped to the Nth console provided by OPAL which generally corresponds to: hvc0 : network console (raw protocol) hvc1 : serial port S1 (hvsi) hvc2 : serial port S2 (hvsi) Note: At this point, early debug console only works with OPAL v1 and shouldn't be enabled in a normal kernel. powerpc/pseries: Re-implement HVSI as part of hvc_vio On pseries machines, consoles are provided by the hypervisor using a low level get_chars/put_chars type interface. However, this is really just a transport to the service processor which implements them either as "raw" console (networked consoles, HMC, ...) or as "hvsi" serial ports. The later is a simple packet protocol on top of the raw character interface that is supposed to convey additional "serial port" style semantics. In practice however, all it does is provide a way to read the CD line and set/clear our DTR line, that's it. We currently implement the "raw" protocol as an hvc console backend (/dev/hvcN) and the "hvsi" protocol using a separate tty driver (/dev/hvsi0). However this is quite impractical. The arbitrary difference between the two type of devices has been a major source of user (and distro) confusion. Additionally, there's an additional mini -hvsi implementation in the pseries platform code for our low level debug console and early boot kernel messages, which means code duplication, though that low level variant is impractical as it's incapable of doing the initial protocol negociation to establish the link to the FSP. This essentially replaces the dedicated hvsi driver and the platform udbg code completely by extending the existing hvc_vio backend used in "raw" mode so that: - It now supports HVSI as well - We add support for hvc backend providing tiocm{get,set} - It also provides a udbg interface for early debug and boot console This is overall less code, though this will only be obvious once we remove the old "hvsi" driver, which is still available for now. When the old driver is enabled, the new code still kicks in for the low level udbg console, replacing the old mini implementation in the platform code, it just doesn't provide the higher level "hvc" interface. In addition to producing generally simler code, this has several benefits over our current situation: - The user/distro only has to deal with /dev/hvcN for the hypervisor console, avoiding all sort of confusion that has plagued us in the past - The tty, kernel and low level debug console all use the same code base which supports the full protocol establishment process, thus the console is now available much earlier than it used to be with the old HVSI driver. The kernel console works much earlier and udbg is available much earlier too. Hackers can enable a hard coded very-early debug console as well that works with HVSI (previously that was only supported for the "raw" mode). I've tried to keep the same semantics as hvsi relative to how I react to things like CD changes, with some subtle differences though: - I clear DTR on close if HUPCL is set - Current hvsi triggers a hangup if it detects a up->down transition on CD (you can still open a console with CD down). To keep the disabled case as quick as possible, we embed a status word in the TOC so we can get at it with a single load. By doing so we keep the overhead at a minimum. powerpc: Add configurable -Werror for arch/powerpc Add the option to build the code under arch/powerpc with -Werror. The intention is to make it harder for people to inadvertantly introduce warnings in the arch/powerpc code. It needs to be configurable so that if a warning is introduced, people can easily work around it while it's being fixed. The option is a negative, ie. don't enable -Werror, so that it will be turned on for allyes and allmodconfig builds. The default is n, in the hope that developers will build with -Werror, that will probably lead to some build breaks, I am prepared to be flamed. generic debug pagealloc CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC is now supported by x86, powerpc, sparc64, and s390. This patch implements it for the rest of the architectures by filling the pages with poison byte patterns after free_pages() and verifying the poison patterns before alloc_pages(). This generic one cannot detect invalid page accesses immediately but invalid read access may cause invalid dereference by poisoned memory and invalid write access can be detected after a long delay. This removes it along with the following changes: - 32-bit platforms that relied on PPC32 && PPC_MULTIPLATFORM now rely on 6xx which is what they want anyway. - A new symbol, PPC_BOOK3S, is defined that represent compliance with the "Server" variant of the architecture. powerpc: Split-out common MSI bitmap logic into msi_bitmap.c There are now two almost identical implementations of an MSI bitmap allocator, one in mpic_msi.c and the other in fsl_msi.c. Merge them together and put the result in msi_bitmap.c. Some of the MPIC bits will remain to provide a nicer interface for the MPIC users. In the process we fix two buglets. The first is that the allocation routines, now msi_bitmap_alloc_hwirqs(), returned an unsigned result, even though they use -1 to indicate allocation failure. Although all the callers were checking correctly, it is much better for the routine to just return an int. At least until someone wants > ~2 billion MSIs. The second buglet is that the device tree reservation logic only allowed power-of-two reservations. AFAICT that didn't effect any existing code but it's nicer if we can reserve arbitrary irqs from MSI use. We also add some selftests, which exposed the two buglets and now test for them, as well as some basic sanity tests. The tests are only built when CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL=y. kgdb, powerpc: arch specific powerpc kgdb support This patch removes the old kgdb reminants from ARCH=powerpc and implements the new style arch specific stub for the common kgdb core interface. It is possible to have xmon and kgdb in the same kernel, but you cannot use both at the same time because there is only one set of debug hooks. The arch specific kgdb implementation saves the previous state of the debug hooks and restores them if you unconfigure the kgdb I/O driver. powerpc: Add self-tests of the feature fixup code This commit adds tests of the feature fixup code, they are run during boot if CONFIG_FTR_FIXUP_SELFTEST=y. Some of the tests manually invoke the patching routines to check their behaviour, and others use the macros and so are patched during the normal patching done during boot. [POWERPC] cpm: Describe multi-user ram in its own device node. The way the current CPM binding describes available multi-user (a.k.a. dual-ported) RAM doesn't work well when there are multiple free regions, and it doesn't work at all if the region doesn't begin at the start of the muram area (as the hardware needs to be programmed with offsets into this area). The latter situation can happen with SMC UARTs on CPM2, as its parameter RAM is relocatable, u-boot puts it at zero, and the kernel doesn't support moving it. It is now described with a muram node, similar to QE. The current CPM binding is sufficiently recent (i.e. never appeared in an official release) that compatibility with existing device trees is not an issue. The code supporting the new binding is shared between cpm1 and cpm2, rather than remain separated. QE should be able to use this code as well, once minor fixes are made to its device trees. Unlike Anton's previous attempt, I'm not using updatepp. I'm removing the hash entries from the bolted mapping (using a map in RAM of all the slots). Expensive but it doesn't really matter, does it ? :-) Memory hot-added doesn't benefit from this unless it's added at an address that is below end_of_DRAM() as calculated at boot time. [POWERPC] Removed config options that we don't support in embedded6xx When we started arch/powerpc we duplicated a number of config options from arch/ppc for various platforms that are supported. Now that we actually support a few platforms, remove all the ones that haven't been moved over. Additionally, this cleanup moved the 82xx/PQ2 options over into arch/powerpc/platforms/82xx/Kconfig where they belong. It also killed GEN550 which doesn't exist in arch/powerpc. [POWERPC] Make xmon disassembly optional While adding spu disassembly support it struck me that we're actually carrying quite a lot of code around, just to do disassembly in the case of a crash. While on large systems it's not an issue, on smaller ones it might be nice to have xmon - but without the weight of the disassembly support. For a Cell build this saves ~230KB (!), and for pSeries ~195KB. We still support the 'di' and 'sdi' commands, however they just dump the instruction in hex. [POWERPC] print backtrace when entering xmon xmon does not print a backtrace per default. This is bad on systems with USB keyboard, the most needed info about the crash is lost. print a backtrace during the very first xmon entry. [PATCH] powerpc: Make early debugging options behave with oldconfig If you undefine all the early debugging options and then run make oldconfig, you don't get prompted to see if you want to enable any of them. This is annoying. AFAICT we can't do this just with a choice, because the choice is either optional, in which case we don't get prompted, or not in which case we _must_ select early debugging. So add a bool which controls whether we have early debugging at all, and then if that's enabled provide the choice. The extra bool will actually be useful in another patch I have lying around, so this is a win-win. [PATCH] powerpc: Make early debugging configurable via Kconfig This patch adds Kconfig entries to control the early debugging options, currently in setup_64.c. Doing this via Kconfig rather than #defines means you can have one source tree, which is buildable for multiple platforms - and you can enable the correct early debug option for each platform via .config. I made udbg_early_init() a static inline because otherwise GCC is to daft to optimise it away when debugging is off. Now that we have udbg_init_rtas() we can make call_rtas_display_status* static. powerpc: Merge enough to start building in arch/powerpc. This creates the directory structure under arch/powerpc and a bunch of Kconfig files. It does a first-cut merge of arch/powerpc/mm, arch/powerpc/lib and arch/powerpc/platforms/powermac. This is enough to build a 32-bit powermac kernel with ARCH=powerpc. For now we are getting some unmerged files from arch/ppc/kernel and arch/ppc/syslib, or arch/ppc64/kernel. This makes some minor changes to files in those directories and files outside arch/powerpc.
