Perform some code consolidation and add some additional error
checking/reporting. (similar to SVN revisions 251919 and 251928)

Remove unnecessary loops, perform some code consolidation, and add some
additional error checking/reporting.

Reduce verbosity in the "Console"->"Saver" module (bsdconfig syscons_saver)
by replacing the infinitive [verb] phrase "Simply blank the screen" with a
simple description of what you get; "Blank screen".
