17The Compaq Intelligent Drive Array (IDA) technology is used to 18distribute data across an array of hard drives. 19It unites these hard drives into one or more high-performance logical drives. 20The drive array is managed by an array controller. 21.Pp 22These controllers have the ability to provide fault tolerance for the connected 23drives and optionally provide write cache for the logical drives.

24It is also possible for an application to access the SCSI bus subsystem directly by 25using the pass-through interface. 26.Sh IMPLEMENTATION NOTES 27Extreme caution should be exercised when using the pass-through interface. 28It is possible to interfere with normal system I/O and cause hangs if 29pass-through is used to an active device. 30Pass-through should only be used to a device that is otherwise quiescent. 31.Sh COMPATIBILITY
